I havent been to Best Buy in a while, do they still stock the 2 disc exclusive tin that they used to offer? I know its on their site, but id rather get it in store.

I saw several at the store when I was there a few days ago. You can probably use the instore availabilty feature on the website to see if the Best Buy near you has any in stock.

At stores in Durham and Fayetteville, NC there are only the two discs with slipcovers, no tins.

Didn't see them at any of my local ones, but then again i wasn't looking for them, so it's possible i could have found one if I looked hard enough.

Fresno is all out of the tins. I got one of the last ones that they had the first week it came out. All they have now is the regular 2 disc set.

all gone at my store in e. brunswick, nj. as the others suggested the instore pickup will give you some idea as to availability at your local bb but isn't 100% accurate.

The nearest Best Buy hasn't had any since release day and now only carries the regular 2-disc.

Frustrating. I really like the tin packaging and have been checking random BB's in my area (I drive around OC and LA alot for work) and so far I'm coming up empty. None of the OC stores I've visited in the past week have had it. I doubt I'll pay a premium via Ebay, though. If I can't find it, I may finally just get the standard 2-disc set. (Slighty OT, but Costco has a Scorsese Collection that includes Mean Streets, Goodfellas two-disc, Aviator two-disc, and Departed two-disc for $42.99). It's not a tin, but still a great deal for somebody that doesn't own the other titles.

Does anything special come in the tin, or is the tin the only thing special about it?

Yeah, I went to the BB on 86th and lex during my lunch hour (I normally do this with limited releases, because if I go after work, they are usually sold out) on release day, and they only had a few left.

It's not a "tin" per se (like Oldboy), it's the Steelbook packaging... It looks great but if you're looking for something exclusive, there are only mini-poster cards (which I could care less about).

It's not reliable!

I can vouch for it not being reliable. The web site told me last week they had this in stock at the Pasadena, Ca store. And I get to the store to pick it up and they had the regular two disc set waiting for me. It seems that both items have the same ID in the system and it doesn't differentiate between the two. So the web site will say it's in stock most likely.

Most stores by me sold out of it the first week of release. I only managed to go on a Thursday, but by then there were only a few left in store. I managed to get the last good condition (i.e. the others were scratched, etc.) tin that they had. They told me that they were expecting another shipment, but that it never came in-stock. I really need to find another since I promised my friend I would get him one. Now I'm sort of scrambling.

My stores still had a good supply of them of still a week ago, when I was there for the Warner two disc sale/glitch.
I have it and I love it. I'll take a picture of it when I get home in two hours and post it, it's so cool looking.

Just buy your Departed tin from bestbuy.com and be done with it.
Saves you time and money for gas.

I wouldn't recommend that. I don't see it here this thread, but I think in another people mentioned ordering it online then going to the store to pick it up and being given the regular 2 disc, not the steelbook. Apparently as far as Best Buy is concerned it's the same item.

Here in MA (where The Departed was set and partially filmed) it has been long SOLD OUT since the Tuesday it was released. I keep saying if you truly want to own the steelbook buy it on Ebay. You will pay a little more than retail price but you won't go nuts trying to locate one...Gas is too expensive!

Here are some pictures, sorry if they're not the sharpest for some reason but I think you'll get the idea. If you guys want I can take nice sharp ones when I get home tonight, but I have to go back to work now. I love this thing, awesome packaging for an awesome film. It's completely worth the $22.99!

Thanks to the OP for mentioning the tin, I hadn't been paying attention and didn't know one existed. Went to my local BB today (Flint, MI) and picked one up.
If anyone in the Michigan area is looking for one, it shows available for pickup at all the Best Buys in the area - Flint, Auburn Hills, Brighton, Pontiac, Farmington Hills and Saginaw. So thy must have at least 3 copies at each store right now.

As previously mentioned in the thread, the SKUs, or at least Best Buy's system, interpret both 2 discs (regular and tin) as the same item.
You may or may not have a tin in the mail...
(you'll note their site doesn't even list a 'regular' 2 disc)

Fangs is right. An earlier thread also talked about getting the steelbook version off the Best Buy site. It has a picture of the steelbook - but it is listed differently than I saw 1-2 weeks ago. Used to say Limited Edition tin packaging or something close to that. Now just says Departed: Special Edition. Do not think they have any left in stock online. So order at own risk if you are expecting a steelbook version.

A shiny new Departed Steelbook.
Ordered it Sunday night, shipped on Monday. For those of you still looking, you never know....
