New FOX series The Winner...thoughts?

I think Seth might have a bit of a stinker with this one. Not funny, and too much laugh track.

The most annoying laugh track ever. Horrible show. Saw this guy on a talk show and he was really funny so I tivoed the show. First and last time. A guy talking to a 14 year old kid about doing his mom is not funny.

Update ... a 32 year old guy taking a 14 year old kid with him so he can buy condoms to do the 14 year olds mom is downright creepy.

AD is still in production right? I’ll be irate if they cancelled that for this show.

Anyway, The Winner was a huge loser. Totally predictable and unfunny throughout. I'll STILL give the second episode a chance, but the pilot was just dreadful.

I thought it was better than a lot of other sitcoms on right now. I'll watch again and see if it goes anywhere. And the chick is hot!

I have no idea what to think. I really want to like this show, I do. I really like Rob Corddry and Lenny Clarke.

However, I was not impressed with these first two episodes. There was very little funny about it, I think I smiled maybe twice and nothing got a real laugh. The constant laugh track didn't help either, it only annoyed me further. Plus, as magiccmom mentioned, Corddry always talking to the kid about how he wants to do his mother is just very creepy.

A turd. I gave both episodes a shot and agree that his relationship with the boy is quite disturbing. Not a laugh to be had, and found myself hating everyone. Not as bad as Lucky Louie though.

It made me miss Chris Elliott's "Get a Life."

Haven't watched episode 2 yet, but watched all of episode one and didn't care for it AT ALL until they were having dinner together at the end. Few laughs there. I'll watch episode two before I make a call either way.

And for the record, this laugh track isn't as bad as "Rules Of Engagement". Still just terrible though.

I've only watched the pilot so far, but I thought that was really funny, although I felt the laugh track was forced and annoying as hell, and threatened to pull the rest of the show down with it.

I don't even get why they do laugh tracks anymore. Either go full-out with an actual studio audience, or keep the soundtrack free of laughter. The only time it's appropriate to use a laugh track is when the show is mocking the use of laugh tracks, and even then it's best used sparingly.

Same sentiments, though I thought the two episodes were just okay.

I too like Rob Corddry and enjoyed his segments on TDS and movie bits. I'll give this one a try.

IMO, that honor would go to Lucky Louie. But The Winner, esp. the Pilot episode, ranks close.

I completely agree. The laugh track was annoying, but FOX probably forced it or something.

There were several moments where I laughed pretty hard like when he told her that she did the right thing getting a divorce because "he probably molested your son"

Better than War At Home, but still disappointing overall. When does King of the Hill come back?

Watched the first episode. The laugh track was way too much for me. I'm out.

I actually enjoyed it... though that's probably just because my expectations were unbelievably low due to the horrific ads.

Why didn't they just call this "That 90s Show"... too many ironic references to the past.

I smirked once or twice in the episodes, but didn't laugh. Pretty lame.

Also, the part at the video store really bothered me. It was supposed to take place in 94, but I saw lots of video boxes from movies that came out way later than 94. I'm pretty sure I saw a Mullholland Drive box. I know I'm anal.

I expected to hate it, but I actually laughed a few times, which for me makes it funnier than nearly every show, including Earl and Scrubs
Still, this is the kind of premise that can burn out fast.

After watching the pilot, all I have to say is.....two more days until new South Park.
