There are 2 versions of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The 2-disc "The Collector's Edition" was released first. Then a year later, Sony released a 1-disc version, which also has "The Collector's Edition" on the cover as well.

As said above, there is a 1 disc and a 2 disc.

99% chance this refers to the 1 disc.

To clarify:

"Collector's Edition" is the name of the extended cut (a la "director's cut") and means absolutely nothing with regard to which version it is. Both 1 disc and 2 disc (as stated) carry that label--since it refers to the movie itself anyway.
