These lists are based on global unique users connected to Xbox Live or in the case of Arcade, full versions purchased this week. If the Xbox 360 list and the original Xbox list were combined, then Gears of War continues to be the top Xbox Live title. The arcade list is based on full versions purchased.

It seems this thread has turned into a kind of gathering place to garner interest on each particular night. Which is probably the best thing since there are so many games out currently.

Start Times are 7-8 P.M. EST to whenever people stop playing.

Use the gamertag list to send friend invites if people don't have their gamertags in their sigs. Make sure to let people know that you are from DVDtalk when sending friend request.

If anyone has suggestions for changes to the schedule, please post them here, also we can discuss the prior nights events here and that sort of thing. As a game lacks in popularity and new games come along I will change this list accordingly, so let me know when you all think a certain night is no longer necessary for a specific game and we will replace it with more popular title. If there is a title that everyone thinks we don't get to play enough maybe we can even dedicate a second night to it.

Also if anyone has Ideas for events and things that we could have that would be cool.

Sorry I didn't get you in a game of Crackdown with me Miyu. Czar and I were playing as he only rented the game and is bringing it back tonight. I was helping him get the most achievements he could get, and I got some of the ones I was missing.

No big thing at all - i was just going to help you go through that FAQ. When your game was full i joined in with General who had just started so i was able to practice running over some Muertos with a vehicle to raise my driving to 2 stars. I really hate trying to control the vehicles and hit people to raise that skill. It will take me forever to raise it to --.

Nah.. not if you have me or someone helping like I stated above. You drive vehicles, the other person shoots out the legs of the gang members so they fall to the ground.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat until you are 4* -- in driving.
It might take 1.5 hours at most, probably less if you are 2* now.

How long do they stay downed? I could shoot out legs, get in car and run them over - boost my driving and firearms in single player slowly!

They only stay down a few seconds. When I was helping Czar, I had to shoot out their legs multiple times if he couldn't run them over fast enough.

Speaking of, i have been playing the Godfather a fair amount lately (from Gamefly) and it is actually a pretty good game. Reviews though that talk about EA microtransactions on this title being bad didn't communicate to me how horrible they really are. EA does sell cheat codes in the marketplace and while lame i didn't have a huge problem with - if you are lame enough to use cheats then lamely selling them is fine by me.

What is horrible about this game though is there are sellers in game that you buy ammo or new weapons from when you have enough money. Some of them though sell more powerful guns for MS points. So you go up to a vendor thinking they sell ammo or a new weapon and when you choose to see their inventory it pops out the silver dashboard blade where you can spend real money vis MS points for a gun in game. Horrible! Not only tricking you into looking at the crap it breaks any sort of suspended disbelief you may have had in the game.

I don't have these problems very often because I have a seperate 360 for each game. That way each system doesn't wear out. Here is a shot of my basement storage room.

no my system was one i replaced in 11/06 (9/06 manu. date). My launch console was fine, but was did a few goofy things so i traded it in at gamestop just in case (use it or lose it warranty).

I can tell you verbally how I broke mine. I dont really want to share it here with the world lol

Not regular to game nights, but a regular here(of course). I've had two die on me.

It would be interesting to see a DVDtalk master list of who has had one break.

Also to be honest mine was not a red rings problem. The actual DVD Drive in mine started making noises and leaving marks on the discs. It also started to fail to recognize 360 games and instead read them as DVD movies. It would still play Halo and games on the HDD no problem. When they replaced it i got my exact unit back with a new disc drive installed.

That's exactly what mine is doing now xmiyux. :( I'm just waiting till I need to go away for a while to send mine back to them. I have a trip to chile and training planned in May so I'm going to try holding out till then.

Yeah that was an amusing call - they kept implying that i was vibrating my 360 to cause the problems. I explained it is only giving me problems with certain games (R6 and Gears) no other original Xbox or other 360 titles. They half argued with me a bit until i finally just said that i bought the warranty from them for 2 years and i wanted it fixed and if it wasn't resolved i expected them to reimburse me for any games damaged due to a faulty drive. My testiness shown through and the CSR apologized, sent me a coffin right away etc. I also think i got a CSR in the US versus some people who say they are calling India and have someone obviously using a script.

When i got it back the inside of the tray looked different and the drive itself was hella quieter which lead me to believe it definitely was a drive problem.

Not sure why I kept dropping out of the game in Gears. My connection to Live was fine, but Gears itself was giving me an error message about losing the connection to the other players. After I gave up for the night I power-cycled my cable modem and router just to be safe. Kind of a bummer. I might be back on after Lost if people are still playing and the room's not full, but if not, hopefully I can get some quality time in Gears tomorrow or Friday.

I couldn't make it on last night, but I'm up for some TMNT tonight. I tried jumping into random matches yesterday, but there were a lot of people with crappy connections causing the games to slow down or stop completely. In the one match that had no connection issues, there was some jackass little kid yelling things like "Donatello - attack!" and "Cut his head off, Leonardo!", and for some weird reason his voice was coming out over the speakers as well as in the headset. I had to mute the TV and unplug my headset. The whole thing reminded me why I stopped playing with random people on Live in the first place. -ohbfrank-

I can't help it, that's just the way I am. :p I actually just got out of a meeting a few minutes ago, so now I have some time to catch up on the forums.

Last night I downloaded the beta and started off with the single player tutorials since the game mechanics are more complicated than those of most FPS games. There are six chapters to the tutorial and each one has a guided section to teach you how the different magic and tech abilities work, and then a second section where you use these newly learned abilities in a team match with bots. So far it seems like the game has a steep learning curve, and the gameplay seems pretty deep. For each ability, there is some way to counter it. This will definitely be a game where communicating with teammates, balancing your team, and picking a role to play within the team will be vital to winning. IIRC, there are four races: humans, dwarves, elves, and trolls, and of course each race has its strengths and weaknesses. I didn't get to try out any Live multiplayer matches since the training levels take a while to complete, but I'll probably give it a spin tonight. It's way too early to give much of an impression, but I like what I've seen so far. In particular I really enjoyed the glider, the teleportation magic, and the katana that the elves can use. These things really add some cool new twists to the FPS genre.

Thanks UncleGramps for the insight. I went over to XBl and they have a first impression on the beta as well. They're basically saying the samething that the game has a steep learning curve, has lots of potential, somewhat frustrating and to early for a final verdict.

I mite be on later but I need to tackle RS:LV since it's been three weeks since I played that.

:confused: The wired ones attach to the wireless controller. No need to be that close.

Anyway, most do use them but not everyone. It helps if you have good mature players and it drives you nuts if you get annoying people. The cool thing is you can usually mute people individually so that helps.

Right now the only wireless headset from MS isn't getting great reviews. It works but many say it has lotsa noise.

As far as what you'll hear....great teamwork communications, funny trash talk, annoying trash talk, racist comments, and lotsa other stuff. :D

So, so, how is Shadowrun? Halo party system intact? Any sign of clan support? How do the Dwarves play? (it seems like a large number of people are playing elves so i'm curious about the other races).
Well, having played Halo 2 multiplayer a grand total of 1 time, I can't comment of the party system or clan support. :lol:

The tutorials walk you through each race, so you can see how each one works. That tutorial level is the only experience I've had with the dwarves so far. Like everyone else, I'm favoring the elves at this point. I like their agility and ability to regenerate health. My play style is support - creating Trees of Life, reviving teammates, defending the base, and so on - and the elves seem well-suited to that. I'll probably try out the dwarves and humans later on, but I'll probably avoid trolls since I really don't like slow-moving characters.

As for the multiplayer, I tried it out Friday night and it was pretty enjoyable. It takes time getting used to the between round magic/tech purchasing, especially since I haven't played much Counterstrike. There's also an adjustment period for the controls, since you only have 3 slots for magic and tech. To use magic or tech that isn't assigned to a slot, you have to stop moving, hold down B, select the magic/tech in the wheel that pops up, then use the magic/tech by pressing the right trigger. Kind of awkward, but it gets easier with practice. The gameplay itself is straightforward capture the flag, although supposedly there's another mode they'll be adding before release. This is definitely a game where teamwork is key, so I think it will be more enjoyable if you have a clan or at least a group of friends to play with on a regular basis.

At this point, I'm leaning towards picking it up if it's $40 or less. If it's $50, I'd have to think twice, and if it's $60, forget it. Also, I've heard that there will be a public demo closer to release, so that's something to look forward to. The game is also discussed on this week's 1up podcast, and you can see it in action on The 1up Show (the video podcast).

Nevermind what we all know about the Gears of War update's release date, because we may not know what we thought we knew from where we've known it. Why? Because according to 1UP, Microsoft accidentally posted all the juicy update details a little too early and promptly pulled down all the information from Gears of War's official website. A Microsoft rep told 1UP that all the details about Annex are correct, but the April 9th release date isn't set in stone. Actually, they aren't sure when it'll be released due to that lovely certification process we've all come to know and love. So, come Monday don't work yourselves up into a tizzy if the Gears update isn't released, because odds are it won't be. And for the person who was responsible for making up an arbitrary release date and getting our hopes up, we highly recommend giving them the pink slip Microsoft. There's no forgiving them for the pain they have caused.

Gears of War Auto Update
Later today, a Gears of War auto update is going to be available. I am not sure of the exact time, but here are some of the details of what the AU contains:

In Annex, gamers seize victory by keeping control over key map locations, or objectives, long enough to collect a winning number of points. Every map contains two to five identified objectives available for capture, with one objective active at a time. Objectives are based on map weapon-spawn locations and have a potential value of 60 points toward either team's score. Teams collect those points by maintaining ownership of an objective until all 60 points have been distributed. Every second that a team controls an objective, the team gets one point. When an objective falls to zero points, the next objective is selected at random.

And while defending their objectives against the onslaught of Xbox LIVE opponents, gamers may notice the following minor adjustments to "Gears of War":

VGA Cable Support: Monitor resolution widths greater than or equal to 1280 now render as letterbox. In particular VGA users running at 1280x1024 will now see the game in full 720p (1280x720) resolution in letterboxed form.
Adjusted Assassination Multiplayer Gametype: Leader no longer has to unlock weapons and now has to be executed to die.
Adjusted Boomshot: Splash damage to be more effective rendering targets down-but-not-out
Adjusted Hammer of Dawn: Aiming will be more forgiving of moving targets
Adjusted Roadie Run: Reduced frequency of accidently grabbing cover while running
Kill Message Ticker: Ticker can now be seen while down-but-not-out and spectating
General: Addressed a number of possible exploits in multiplayer

Im not liking the new Gears game mode. A few weeks out and im a total noob again. I feel like i have to relearn the controls all over again and this new game mode is ALL about getting places quickly. very frustrating.

Last night was a blast playing Annex. I think it makes the game more fun as more of the map is used at any given time. You have to go and capture a spot but you don't have to stay there. Once you cap, you can leave and setup at entry points. At the same time, once time is running out at that spot you can start setting up to cap the next spot that shows up randomly.

I don't know, I liked it. I know some of you guys said you got bored with it, but I personally think it's way more engaging than the other deathmatch type modes.

Just got Burnout Revenge. I successfully played an online race (player-not ranked) but it was laggy. Now, I can't seem to connect to any races. I start to connect to the lobby (I can hear people talking too) and then it says I was kicked out or that I was unable to connect.

Any help? My games in GoW are also pretty lagtacular. I'm hard wired into my wireless router (DLink DI-524, on the compatible list, but different firmware) could this be the issue?

I think you're right but with Forza2 just out and The DarKness right around the corner who knows. Just not me at this time. I picked up Dirt the other day instead of Forza2. Subplant COD2 on Mondays for Lost Planet. We can always play COD2 on Fridays when we're either bored or frustrated with GOW.

UT3 and HL2 are definites for me but I'm not going to blindly buy another COD game until I'm damn sure it's worth it.

It's like I've said in the Past there is nothing inherently wrong with COD3 on the surface. It actually even seems like a really great game, and the multiplayer had the potential to be amazing. But something about that game wore on me util I just couldn't stand it anymore.
