Could have it afffected my ps3 in any way? I somehow forgot to turn it off after watching the prestige.

One time I accidentally left my DVD player running for several days. I don't know if that helps you or not, but there you go.
Also, I leave my computer on for weeks at time.

You ruined it. Fuck man, what were you thinking?!

Actually... I almost never turn off my XBOX360, PC, or Wii. Everything is going to be okay, this stuff is meant to be on for long periods of time.

The 360 has an auto-off function after like 4 or 6 hrs of non-use. Does the PS3 have the same feature?

360 is 6 hours, and it is a feature that can be turned off.

Microsoft and Sony intend these products to be "media centers" for all your entertainment. They are basically computers. So I'm sure they are made to be left on all the time. If you have them in a spot where they can have good airflow.

That's what I was thinking too. I leave my computer on quite a bit. But does the PS3 have a "sleep" mode that kicks in after a certain amount of inactivity, like computers do? I would hope so, otherwise I really wouldn't want to try leaving it on for days at a time.

Iv had my ps3 on for close to that playing games and watching movies and nothing has happened to it. That bad boy is built solid you dont have to worry about things like that.

I've found my PS3 on after a few days of not playing it a few times already. I think I accidentally bump the remote control or something when watching regular TV and it starts it up without me knowing.

Nothing to worry about, except maybe few cents of electrcity... Sony is known for quality products. You do need to have enough ventilation space though. I noticed that when you playing PS2 games, the PS3 doesn't heat up much as i would playing PS3 games.

Not to threadcap or console bash, but... this is known by whom? Everything that I have ever bought that was Sony gave out on me at some point or another. I find most of their products to be shoddy, including their game systems. I must admit that I have heard very few negative things about the PS3 hardware so far, though that could be a reflection on how many homes it is currently in. Just to say someting positive on Sony's behalf: Go Blu-ray!

Sony is no longer known for quality products outside of their TV and Vaio lines and the PS2 had a terrible reputation. Disc read errors galore on the original model and even many of the the slims had a weird issue with thinking controllers are disconnected for no reason.
That said the PS3 seems a much better build. The PSP definitely was solid so they may be learning their lesson. I left mine on all night last night . I plugged my controller into the USB port on my PC to charge last night and must have hit the PS button by accident turning the console on in the living room. Seems like no damage done, but I wish it would turn itself of after an hour or so of non use.

Yeah, Sony is getting a beat down now from the iPod & Xbox 360. That CEO of there's keeps saying that PS3 is there new "Champion Product". And besides the backwards compatability issues, that were fixed in the last update, I've had little, and heard of less, issues with the actual hardware.

Ironically, I found mine to be on the other day, and have no idea how long it was on.
I think it might have turned itself on from static electricity or something.
When I turned out the lights in the room, I noticed the blue light was on, but I hadn't played anything in about a week.

The Power switch is very sensitive... the other day i was wiping off dusts, it turned on... Of course, i turned it off.
I'm not patronizing Sony, but the PSP and PS3 i owned (skipped out the PS2, since my brother got it and at the times, i don't have much times to play games) are solid product. Of course, i won't buy them at full retail prices. That's why i join various forums, to gather/swap info and watching out for deals. I still can't stop braging about my $12 Wii :)

I usually turn the power switch in the back off too. That should prevent accidentally turning it on with the controller or something.

Good to mention. I love that the PS3 has this option.

So now the PS3 is turning itself on? It's evolving isn't it? We'll soon be Sony's slaves and all those who opposed Kutaragi will be doomed to fight giant enemy crabs for as long as you live.

Mine was "magically" on the other day again. I asked the wife if she noticed, as she was home and I just got home from work. She said, "oh yeah, I meant to tell you about that, it came on when I was dusting."
:jawdrop:
Apparently she is the culprit, and doesn't know how to turn it off. She is just full of surprises here lately.
