The tactical shooter is on its way to the assembly line.
Today, Ubisoft proudly proclaimed that Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 has officially reached gold status. Development on the hotly anticipated sequel to last year's game has been finalized, and the game has now entered production in order to meet its ship date of Thursday, March 8.
Ubisoft also announced an in-game Achievements tracking menu for every single multiplayer achievement. This is a pleasant little addition, which makes it easy to find out just how much more work you will need to put in to unlock the next achievement. GRAW 2 accurately measures your progress towards each of the individual Multiplayer Achievements

I hope more games that have achievements for getting x number of kills in a multiplayer match implement similar systems. It would be nice to know how close you are and not just guess. Especially for games like Gears, I think, that each one is for 500 with each weapon.

you can use them with a pricematch
they might complain if you have multiple certs and only one item. BB tends to stick to their rule of one cert per item that you are buying.

It moves a little to fast and smooth but I guess they didn't want it to seem too realistic. It wouldn't be fun trying to slowly navigate that thing over terrain. The first time I got it I flew around a corner too fast and nearly got the damn thing destroyed by enemy gunfire.
The use of the right shoulder button for UAV, mule and teammate control is a great addition. The original GRAW never felt 'right' in terms of controlling your assets, but first-person view is great.

My first impression is that it's pretty easy. I started in the "Guarded Risk" mode. I guess thet's new "Normal" mode. I made it through the first act and only got killed twice.
Having said that, it's still pretty cool. To me, the control set is more intuitive than Rainbow Six or Gow. The graphics are smooth and detailed. They've improved the controls for the drone, and I like the addition of FAR support. The surround sound isn't as immersive as I would would like, but I find that to be true for most 360 games. 5.1 support seems to be an afterthought on most games.
I'll have to catch up with the online players sometime soon and see how that plays. I have some payback for the GoW spanking I got the other night. :)

Yeah.. Total system freeze. I had to power off my 360 and back on. I almost gave up because of having to start the training section from the beginning each time. But at least I got through it.
I really need to send my 360 in for repair, I just don't want to be without it for a few weeks. Besides the locking up occasionally, the system thinks I press the eject button at times and acts like it is going to eject the disc. The light flashes and the dashboard status says opening. But it doesn't open. I have to press the button where it will open briefly and then suck the drive back in. It is really annoying when it does it in the middle of a game. :(

Mexican mayor slams GRAW2 (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6167149.html?action=convert&om_clk=latestnews&tag=latestnews;title;0)
Mayor of border town Juárez says new Ubisoft shooter instills poor values and portrays his city as violent.
By Tim Surette, GameSpot
Posted Mar 9, 2007 10:37 am PT
The line between the real world and a digital world based on the real world is becoming more and more blurred as next-gen systems and high-end PCs crank out sophisticated graphics and physics. Storytelling in games is also getting more realistic, and for shooters set during modern times, that can mean some ruffled feathers.
The mayor of Mexican border town Juárez, Héctor Murguía Lardizábal, has condemned Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 and is asking Mexican federal authorities to act immediately to get the game out of children's reach, reports the El Paso Times. Lardizábal believes the game paints a negative picture of his city and encourages tension between the United States and Mexico.
Set in Juárez, Mexico, and El Paso, Texas, GRAW2 sees an elite combat unit battling Mexican rebels in the year 2014. Lardizábal sees the game as a criminal act against the intellectual capacity of the people of Juárez, whereas Ubisoft sees the game as a fictional story, according to the paper.
The Tom Clancy games, which include the Rainbow Six and Splinter Cell series, have upset government officials before. 2004's Ghost Recon 2 drew harsh words from the North Korean government, and closer to home, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas upset Las Vegas mayor Oscar Goodman, who said the game could be "economically harmful" to his city.
Whereas Lardizábal waited until the day of GRAW2's release to voice his protest, Venezuelan legislator Gabriela Ramirez spoke out against Pandemic Studios' upcoming Mercenaries 2: World in Flames way back in May 2006. Ramirez said the game, set in Venezuela with the object of taking on a "power hungry tyrant," was "a justification for an imperial aggression."
Ubisoft was not immediately available for comment.
Really digging this game. I am on the second mission now.
Just a couple of quick thoughts: the enemy snipers seem to be a lot better than last game, but the Mexican infantry are awful. There seem to be more enemy soldiers in the earlier missions, and they are not pushovers, for the most part. I would agree that it seems to be on the easy side so far, but as I progress in the second mission, it is getting more difficult.

Didn't R6 Vegas and GRAW 1 both have sections in Mexico city? I don't remember anyone complaining then, though I could be wrong. I think they are just doing this to reuse some textures and buildings for the helicopter fly-over shots.

Question for anyone that has played the second mission. Not sure if it is a glitch or not:
There is a part in the second mission where two vehicles drop off a number of enemies, and you have to hold your ground, before moving to the construction area (I think). When I played this the first time, I killed all of the enemies, but one (or both, I can't remember) of the vehicles got away. From then on, I couldn't do anything. I literally went all over battlezone, and absolutely nothing happened. I ended up going outside of the battlezone to start again and went through again with no issues, but I was curious as to what exactly was supposed to happen.

I didn't have that problem, though I did have a similar problem in the original GRAW. There must be one of the bad guys left somewhere for you to kill, or at least the game thinks there is.
If that's the place I'm thinking about, that was the first real challenge for me. I had to finally completely switch my strategy to get through it.

There have been a couple of places where I have been totally surrounded, and it is pretty difficult to get through. I think that this might have been a similar situation
A couple of things from the original game that still bother me are how I sometimes get stuck against walls when I don't want to, and how I still have trouble with the crouching and lying flat commands sometimes. I've been killed multiple times because I couldn't get my guy to change his position. It's very annoying.

I'm not sure if I like the first GRAW better or if I just like Rainbow Six better, but something isn't right with GRAW2.
I think it's the cover system. I prefer R6V's cover system and I'm having a hard time adjusting.
Overall, this seems too easy. I've died a couple of times, but those were mostly due to being in the wrong place or something like that. The 'voice in my head' will say "multiple rebels, northeast!" and there's two of them. Was there a lot of criticism about the first GRAW game being too hard? I wonder if Ubi made this one a lot easier as a reaction to complaints about the first game? I'm playing on the medium difficulty BTW. It's very, very, very rare for me to complain of a game being too easy. I'm sure it will get more difficult, but it seems like there aren't enough bad guys to provide a real challenge. I think I'm close to the end of Act 2.

yea the game is so easy, i'd be kind of mad if I didnt get it for $35 at fry's. The drone is completely useless in this one since all you need to do is run out, there could be 5 enemiees there, wait for them to shoot you so you know where they are and then just start picking them off one at a time WHILE they are ALL shooting you. You just soak up the bullets like nothing (on the medium difficulty at least). Unless you get hit with something like a rocktet or grenade, it's almost impossible to die it seems. I dont remember ythe first GRAW too much but I could have sworn the gameplay was pretty intense if there were just 2 or 3 enemies nearby. This game is a cakewalk and is over in 4 hours

Does anyone have a list of the objectives in the missions? I think that I am on the last objective in the second mission, but I am not positive. I'd like to be able to gauge my progress.
As for level of difficulty, I am playing on medium and for the most part, it is pretty easy, but there are a couple of places that I have had difficulty with. Also, there have been a couple of times that I have been taken out by a single shooter while I was clearing out other enemies. A couple of snipers got me as well, sometimes with their first shot.
After I finish this, I'll probably play it on the hardest level, or try to get one of my friends to play it on co-op with me.

I'm going through it on the hardest setting, and I just finished the 2nd act last night. It hasn't gotten too hard yet. There was only 1 part that I had to play multiple times, but nothing too frustrating. What I was afraid of was the helicopter missions. In the first GRAW, those were so tough on the hardest setting because the soldiers on the ground had incredible (cheap) aim. This time around, its actually pretty easy. I don't think I've been shot once while riding in the helicopter.
As far as co-op by yourself, I'm pretty sure you just host a multiplayer co-op campaign, but don't invite anybody in. And make sure you set it to private so that nobody joins your room.

I just finished the second act on medium setting last night. There were a few parts that I found difficult, but nothing that made me want to bang my head against a wall. One of the hardest parts that I faced was:
When I was trying to get the rebel leader, and had control of the ghosts, the tank, and the chopper. It wasn't too hard in actually getting killed by enemies, but it took me a while to figure out the best method to tackle it.

:(:( My hard drive died on me last night... I managed to fight all the way to 2nd helicopter missioin.
I had to turn it off and went out shopping. When I came back, I got red light - reading "E68" error. So, I checked it on website and it turned out it was hard drive problem.
I guess I got to start over after purchase a new hard drive. I would HATE to start over Oblivion!

I've finished the game twice on the first 2 hardness levels and I am 2/3s of the game on the hardest level. TBH its not that much more difficult. I hate the cover system aswell, though I found it harder to get out of more on the first game.

I finished the game last night, but I ran into a couple of glitches throughout. A couple of lockups, and a couple of times I had to restart because of something not happening as it should have. I'll spoiler just in case:
In the third act, I took down both helicopters, but got nothing. It only registered as one helicopter being down, despite my walking around and seeing both. I already mentioned earlier in the thread about being stuck at city hall and not being able to go any further.
I was a bit confused about the ending of the whole game as well, but it could have been because I locked up right at that point (which made me have to go a number of objectives back in the game, which was extrememly frustrating).
After I was able to help spot the launchers the first time around, I locked up solid, which as I said, made me go back a number of objectives. The second time, I almost thought that the game might have had a couple of different endings, one if you didn't get away in time, and one if you did. But since I knew that there was no way to get away, I wasn't totally sure that I was finished until I saw my achievements showed up.

I went back through and finished the Campaign mode on "Elevated Risk", and didn't find it to be that much more more difficult. If I hadn't been trying to get all the secondary objectives, it probably wouldn't have taken more than 5 hours. I must not have gotten them all, because I didn't get the "Mission Accomplished" achievement. Has anyone seen a list of all the secondary objectives? I thought I took care of them all.
Edit: I found this thread at TeamXbox that talks about the secondary objectives, and the single player achievements (contains spoilers).
I agree, now finished it 3 times on all 3 hardness levels and didn't find it much more of a challange. Though I am having alot of fun on the "helicopter hunt" levels at the dam and the locks.

I still haven't bought this game. BTW, has anyone tried Multiplayer on live? How is it?

It's good, pretty much like GRAW1, but slightly better graphics. More bandwitdth is needed, it seems, if you are hosting...
If you liked the first, then this is a good buy.
Seeing how you dont' have the game yet, perhaps you should wait till prices come down a bit more?

I just bought the original for $15 a/c at BB. Looking forward to trying it out. It's still worth picking up the original isn't it? Folks are still playing online, right?

Yes, definately a fun game, I find it more fun than the Rainbow six games.
Great deal!

I was about to spring on the BB $40 deal for Rainbow 6, but I think I'll put it towards GRAW 2, as I really enjoyed the original and didn't even realize this had come out so soon.

How is everyone playing this? I always use the 3rd person view, but since playing Rainbow 6:LV I switched to 1st person and think I like it better. I just wish it showed your weapon on 1st Person.

Loved the game, great graphics, liked the Med guy addition, but man the game seemed short...

It turns out I was missing 4 of the 12 secondary objectives. Some of those are a bitch to get! I'm working on the last one, and should have it done tonight.

I like GRAW 2 better than frag fest RB6V.

Can you play the campaign in split screen coop? That is what I would like to know (I did not read all the thread so am hoping it was not asked.
That killed GRAW for me, the coop missions werent fun without a story to base them on. R6V also should have allowed for a full coop game, it would be so much more fun.

I finally got all the single player achievements last night. I ended up getting the "Team Elite" kinda by accident. I wasn't really trying for that one while working on another. There was one secondary objective that was really tough because it wasn't really in your line of sight. I had to get some help on that one.

Co-op in GRAW2 is pretty much like the first one. I just started some "single player co-op" last night. Maybe I can hook up with some folks for some on-line action sometime soon.

I finished it on the hardest level last night and agree that it is not much more difficult. I actually found some parts easier for some reason. The second mission seems a lot longer than the other two, and is probably the one that I had most trouble with the first time around.

Another question on secondary objectives: does anyone know if you have to neutralize all fleeing vehicles to get the secondary objective for that particular mission? In the “You’ll be inserted solo” mission, there are at least three vehicles, and I can usually get one, but I don't seem to be able to get the credit for the objective. Anyone know for sure?

In case anyone's still playing this, there are new missions, maps and achievements coming as DLC in the next week or two (no word on if it's free)
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/827/827831p1.html
The article has pictures of the maps as well as descriptions.
A few fairly major shooters shipped in the past few weeks and, frankly, Ubisoft is sick of everyone going ga-ga over Halo 3 and Orange Box. GRAW 2 has been lost in the busy FPS season (and Game of the Year conversation). Ubisoft hopes to change that, by getting gamers to pop GRAW 2 back into their 360s. To do this, Ubisoft is releasing the GRAW 2 Co-Op Collection in late October or early November.
The Co-Op Collection offers five brand new campaign missions that continue the story from GRAW 2. There are also nine adversarial maps for online play. Seven of these maps are remakes of GRAW classics, while two are brand-spankin' new. And for those Achievement whores out there, the Co-Op Collection offers nine new Achievements totally 125 Gamerpoints.

Hmmm... I am intrigued.
I expect to be heavily into CoD4 (and GH3) here in a couple of weeks, though.
Has anyone heard any news about GRAW3? Is there even a GRAW3 in the future?

Nothing yet, but I hope they do as it's my fave FPS. Decided to try and get my 1000 on 2 so I finally went multiplayer. Suprisingly (and lucky for me) there are still quite a few people playing this online.

Well, depending on the price I'll probably be getting the DLC. Did the co-op missions on 2 online with just my cousin, which were sometimes tough to get on Perfect with just two people, but we finally did them. I'd help out when you get them. Not a Halo guy myself, but I will be getting COD4 (haven't downloaded that demo yet, believe it or not).

If you like GRAW, then I think you'll like CoD4. I played the beta and even though I'm not a big multiplayer guy, the beta was a lot of fun.
