Brand New $4.88 Wal-Mart display this weekend

On top of the $5.50 display this morning, my Wal-Mart got in one section so far of a new $4.88 display with something along the lines of "Movies to put a Spring in your step" on it. The woman said they should be getting the rest of the display Friday. Some of the movies in it were:

Popeye
Clockstoppers
Legend of Bagger Vance
The Naked Gun
Dragonslayer
Crossroads (Britney pre-mental)
Galaxy Quest (WS)
Orange County
Clue
I.Q.
Hardball
Heaven Can Wait
Good Burger
Harriet the Spy
Rugrats Movie
Rugrats in Paris
Head of State (FS)
Congo
Summer Rental
Snow Day
Explorers
Tucker: A Man and his Dream

OK, added a bunch more I just saw at another Wal-Mart on the way home. They too only had a small section of the whole display.

The price is just not that impressive after the whole Best Buy thing.

Ooh Goodburger.

I like Dragonslayer. Good fantasy title even if the special effects are kind of dated now since we are all spoiled by CGI beasties.

Good Burger is 3.99 next week at Circuit City. No, its not the Legendary Criterion Version.

Damn! I want to pick up this Criterion release of Goodburger but can't find it anywhere. I'll just have to wait for the BLu-Ray release.

Found the display today and picked up Explorers. I don't know why they had those 2 "deleted scenes" seperate from the movie. They were always in the movie when it on TV.

If a check I am getting from someone comes in the mail in the next few days, I am going to get Good Burger, Criterion version or not.

TV versions are often extended with such scenes re-inserted to make them fit better with commercials

"Explorers" was actually cut for home video by the director.

"Popeye" is so awful even by my standards, but at that price I'm gonna have to bite on it.

Does every Wal-mart have these $4.88 displays? Because mine didn't. Only the $5.50 bin, with none of these titles.

Criterion DVDs are the only DVDs you should own. All others are bad.

Wow, Rugrats and Rugrats in Paris I'm gonna have to pick up. I bought these movies years ago when they first came out then sold them for some reason or another and I have regretted it. I think I might get Snow Day as well.

I saw these last night and I almost picked up 'Clue' until I read the back and saw the audio was in MONO?

I don't know that I've ever seen that on a DVD before. (At least on a feature film of relative moderness...)

Also, no features other than "three endings" that are part of the movie anyway... Jeez. They could have at least included the fourth ending that was cut.

Can we expect a special edition of this anytime soon? I would rather just wait for that.

I didn't buy any but they were priced $5.50 at my cheap-ass Walmart too.

The three endings are not part of the movie.
Originally, only one of them was shown per theatre. They were all added in the home video release (I suppose, then, if you count that, they are 'part of the movie'--but not part of the original at the very least)

And it is DD mono. Not that that makes a huge difference...but...

Most of the titles on this list I bought at DDD during their B1G1F Paramount sale last year making the average final cost $3.02 per DVD. I bought Explorers blind, and I liked it until they wasted about 10-15 minutes straight with that annoying "stand up comedy" by that alien (I didn't laugh at a single "joke"). I almost gave up and barely made it through. I decided if they deleted that entire section, then the movie would be almost OK.

There's not a single title I want on this list, and the ones I wanted I already got cheaper at that DDD sale. One should also realize that several of these Paramount DVDs are SS-SL (DVD-5). I always try to research that first (unfortunately most reviews do not list layer info and those that do are often wrong) because I've always felt a DVD-5 instead of a higher bitrate DVD-9 is a sign of the studio being cheap. Fortunately DVD-5s are rare nowadays, but a few years ago they were all too common.

I visited my friendly neighborhood Walmart and saw all of these titles for $3.78 instead of $4.88. On top of that there were some other $3.78 titles not in the list above:

Greatest Show on Earth
Bad News Bears (old)
Black Beauty
Frankie & Hazel
Talent for the Game
At Close Range
We're No Angels (new)
Mother
Bowfinger
Bang the Drum Slowly
Flipper (new)
Pontiac Moon
Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius
