The Black Donnellys - Pilot - 2/26/07

Not really sure what this is about exactly, or if it's supposed to be any good, but I'll give it a shot.

So did you hear it about this through underground channels or was it NBC putting a promo up during every single commercial spot for the last 6 weeks?

lol, I saw the commercials, just didn't pay much attention. Thought I heard something about the Irish and the mafia, that was enough for me to give it a try.

I wish they didn't give away so much of plot in these promos because it was pretty decent if you haven't been told anything at all about the premise.

The last mafia television show Paul Haggis had a hand in was the thoroughly awesome and insanely short lived EZ Streets. Based on that alone, I'll watch the pilot tonight.

Granted, this one seems to be reaching for the teenage girl audience based on the ads.

Serious shows about the criminally stupid aren't that enjoyable.

It started off really strong but it sure is slow now. The last really good mob show was a show that was on ABC a few years ago called "Line of Fire" That was an excellent show and very graphic.

I have no intention to watch this, but just from the commercials, why the hell is it called The "Black" Donnellys?

... you know what I'm talking about...

I watched the screener in August and thought it was cheesy, but I may watch this show if it stays in this time slot.

I didn't like "Line of Fire."

If they stopped playing that sappy music the show would be pretty good. How about a nice instrumental score instead?

Good finish to what seemed to be a slow pilot episode. Tommy just took over the neighborhood!

I liked the ending, but everything leading up to it was dull.

i found the show to be whiny and tedious.

Serious shows about the criminally stupid aren't that enjoyable.

Though I miised the first 20 minutes, I enjoyed the pilot enough to give it a try for at least another week.

Seems like pretty good timing airing the pilot the day after The Departed wins for Best Picture!

I was just reading the collection of press reviews over at AICN and some of them are pretty funny.

My favorite from the Boston Herald

What if Archie Comics and the folks behind Lucky Charms cereal decided to make a mob drama? It would look a lot like “The Black Donnellys,”

I don't really feel like giving this show a second chance after reading those reviews from the Los Angeles Times, etc.

The book-slapping was definitely the highlight of the episode.
