How I Met Your Mother - "Arrivederci, Fiero" - 2/26/07

"Arrivederci, Fiero"
Spoiler:
The gang recalls great memories in Marshall's car when it gives out just short of 200,000 miles.

Wow. Funniest episode all season.

And it wasn't even Barney-centric! Who'd a thunk it?

Huh. I thought it was pretty terrible. The entire story of Ted and Marshall freezing in the car was just bad. No one I was watching with laughed once. Even the half assed Pulp Fiction shout out fell flat.

Not to mention, I have a certain level of bullshit I can accept for fiction, but a Pontiac approaching 200K?

I dunno. I laughed pretty hard at the PF reference.

And, maybe my standards for reality make a pretty drastic drop where sitcoms are concerned, but I actually found this episode kinda funny because cassettes CAN'T keep playing the same song over and over no matter how much they're stuck. Funny, to be sure, but also bullshit.

Say, do they have to pay extra for the music rights when they play the song over and over and over again like that?

Have you ever purchased cassette singles? They generally have the same song on both sides, and combined with an auto reverse tape deck...

Plausible?

Edit: Yeesh, I just realized that they even say it's a cass-single at the end of the ep. There ya go.

This one was really far up there, but I think that I like Robin's pop singing/slap bet episode better.

I loved that Marshall had a stupid looking mullet!

I stand corrected. Turns out, according to Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I'm_Gonna_Be_(500_Miles) that song actually WAS issued as a cassette single. (not sure about it not having a b-side, though...?)

I thought the episode had a few funny moments, but I'm with you on the "whaaaa?!" factor of the Fiero reaching 200,000 miles. I had a friend who had one in high school and that thing bugged out after about 70,000 miles.

Yeah, I'm with you. I thought this was probably the worste ep of the season (Barney's brother ep was my least favorite), especially coming after one of the better eps of the season. I'm surprised at all the praise it's getting. I didn't think it had one funny moment & unlike most, Marshall is my favorite character so you'd think a Marshal-centric ep would be great, but I didn't think there was a single LOL moment. I also thought the PF spoof was lame.

I thought the funniest part was when the redneck and ferocious German Shepherd found Ted & Marshall in the car, and despite screaming in fear, Marshall still was able to score a point by mentioning the dog.

Other than that, Barney learning to drive was way over the top and not funny.

I enjoyed it, but I didn't think it was one of the best. But this is still one of the best comedies currently on.

I must have not been paying attention at ALL to this. What was the Pulp Fiction reference?

The girls making a mess in the car with the Thai food and Robin's monologue about how they were going to clean it up. (Jules and Vince in the car after Vince shot Marvin in the face)

Was that supposed to be a nod to Pulp Fiction? Wow. Pretty sad "homage". Even still, though, I agree with those who have said this is one of the funniest comedies on TV.

A lot of that scene was word for word. Pretty obvious, to me.

Agreed....both my wife and I identified this, and she's not really a big fan of PF.

But we both found it really funny!

Further evidence that I REALLY wasn't paying attention...oh well.
