wrong title pressed on a DVD?
Hey all. Long (loooooooong) time mostly-lurker over in the bargains area here. Anyway, I recently discovered that my old (special edition) copy of The Spy Who Loved Me isn't, in fact, a James Bond DVD at all. I hadn't gotten around to playing it in the past several years, so I was pretty surprised to find that rather than the Region 1 Bond film that the case and the DVD label both claim are on the disc, a Region 2 version of Bowfinger was pressed on it instead. Not even the same studio, which struck me as especially odd (and this was purchased from Amazon way back when, so it's not like it's a bootleg or anything).
I searched far and wide to find any other reports of this, but didn't have any luck. Obviously, the disc is long out of print, so a replacement at this point is probably out of the question. Just curious if any of you have encountered anything similar, or have any suggestions for what I can do with my newly-discovered quasi-coaster. Any collectors out there looking for a bizarre anomaly? Any way to contact MGM to get their take on it?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this one. You guys are the best!

Way back when, remember hearing someone claim that their copy of Pinocchio had Prince of Egypt on it.
I have a CD of Saturday Night Fever that has the soundtrack to The Color Purple on it instead!

I don't think it was the wrong pressing, but a few years back I bought the Rocky Box Set, and instead of Rocky IV, I got a copy of the movie Roadie. It was a hassle getting it replaced, mainly because I was too honest at the store and told them the error, as opposed to playing dumb and just saying the disc didn't work.

^OK, now that's funny, CM. At any rate, thanks for the commiseration, gang. I guess I'll just hang on TSWLM as a curiosity. Luckily I got the new Bond box sets over the holidays, so I can still watch the film if I get a hankerin'.

It's been about 10 or so years ago now. A girl I know bought Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle and it had the Chronic in it. It wasn't a misprint on the disc. It just had the wrong disc in the case. They went back into the record shop and the store ended up opening all of the copies they had. It was about 3-4 more. They were all like that.

Whoever was packing those CDs when they were being made must have been on the Chronic while doing so!
I once bought a CD, went out to the car and opened it to put in the cd changer only to find the case was empty! I immediately went back in the store and exchanged it. Luckily they didn't think I was trying to pull a fast one on them and gave me no troubles.

This is why Disney makes companies that replicate discs for them sign agreements that they won't also make porn discs. It's created a real problem for porn companies that want to release Blu-Ray discs because Disney is contracted with almost all of the Blu-Ray manufacturing companies.

I once bought a CD by a band called David+David, and while the CD was printed as such, the actual music was a jazz album I couldn't identify. It was hard to convince the salespeople at Wherehouse that it was the wrong album, because they had never heard of David+David and thought they might be a jazz group. They eventually gave me an exchange, but it was a bit of a hassle...

A customer asked me to get a copy of the movie Convoy for them. They could only find it on Amazon.com, but they didn't have a credit card (only thing that Amazon accepts). I put in the order, got the disc for them. They brought it back, saying that the movie wasn't on the disc. Instead it was videos by some crappy band called "Floater."

I have a copy of Pearl Jam's first cd that is actually a Celine Dion recording. I took it back and told the store clerk I thought Pearl Jam was a bit too mellow. I called Sony and they wanted me to send it right back but I never did. It's fun for a laugh now and then.

I'd contact MGM ("Google" 'em) and tell them exactly what you said in your message. I had a broken case for Oz season 3 and emailed HBO. They told me to send the case in and they sent a replacement ... which also had a broken hub ... but was in slighly better shape -- at least it was glued to the cardboard.
