For some reason, DVD sites never seem to update their thread titles so there can be major announcements about a title's release hidden among a thread made to complain why a title will never come out.

That's true, but if you go to a message board and there is another topic about the movie you're discussing, updated the same day, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to double check and make sure the info isn't there as well.
