God of War II gets 1st great review
Just saw that IGN reviewed the game and gave it 9.7. Check out the link below.

I LOVED the first game and cannot wait to get my hands on this little beauty. The third game in the series will probably ensure that i eventually pick up a PS3. What do all you folks think to the series and its potential?

I have played through GoW numerous times, and I still consider it to be as perfect as a game can get. It would have been my pick for game of the year in 2005 if RE4 didn't hold over until January. As it is, it is my favorite game for the PS2, and probably on my top 10 all-time. I'm so hyped for this to come out, I'll be buying a PS2 again for it. I'm glad it got such a glowing review, but I expected as much. Only a few more weeks...

I didn't even finish the demo of the first GoW game, but I was listening to the '1up yours' podcast this morning and they mentioned that GoW2 looks so good that they can't believe it's running on a PS2. Someone asked, "WHY did we need next gen hardware again?"

I love God of War too, and most likely the third game will be what pushes me over the edge to buy a PS3.
One thing I hope the second game has is many more boss battles. The boss battles in the first game were amazing, but unfortunately there were only three bosses total. I hope the second game has more.
As to why we need next-gen hardware: So that these rich executives can get richer.

I'll echo the sentiment that GoW 3 will make me buy a PS3.
On the topic of bosses, I read somewhere (new EGM maybe?) that the boss encounters would be increased significantly. Not sure exactly what that means, but if they are even doubled while retaining the quality of the original's, that will work for me.

I love the scenario and the setting of GoW. However, the gameplay is not my cup o' tea. If it wasn't for a wife's coworker forcing it on me, I never would have bothered. Took me long enough to even put the disc in. But, once I did, oh man...
It would never push me to buy a system, but I can't wait to borrow GoW2 from that guy!

I'm playing through the first one now and liking it. Probably give it a 8.0 right now (probably somewhere around 65-70% through). Great presentation, story and athmosphere, but I get a little tired of the constant, repetitive (i.e. largely button mashing) battles and some of the puzzles are a bit illogical.
The latter gripe should be eliminated in the sequel with the addition of a "hint button" and hopefully having more bosses will eliminate some of the scenes where you just have to fight near endless waves of the normal minions which isn't very exciting and gets old fast.
So I'm pretty stoked for the sequel, but I probably won't pick it up right away as I'll need a break from the series for a while before jumping back in.

I'll be holding off until it hits budget price, GoW 1 was good but I found myself getting bored with it in some of the later levels and I guess the desire for more of the same just isn't there right now.
Cool to hear some of the newer games are still getting rave reviews. 9.7 from IGN is a rarity (and a 9.5 from 1up).

I was just looking around and noticed that God of War 2 does not come out until March 13.
Why is Sony waiting a month to release it since it is evidently already finished if sites already have the reviewable copy?

A 9.7 !? That means it must be a whole 5% better than DOA Xtreme Beach Volleyball which got a 9.2 from IGN!
But seriously, I'm sure it is a great game. The first one kicked major ass.

Looking forward to this one a lot! Sony must know that because it's a $49.99 game; the only SCEA one AFAIK. Bummer.

Reviewable copy isn't necessarily a 100% finished copy that is ready for retail.
EGM is the only reviewers I know of that have a policy of waiting for 100% finished games (or at least a game the developer assures them is 100% done), which is why they end up with reviews a month late many times.
