Bloc Party: A Weekend in the City (w/exclusive tracks) -- Best Buy or Target?

It's $9.98 at Target. At Best Buy, it's $9.99.

Target boasts 2 exclusive tracks. Best Buy promotes an exclusive 2 digital tracks.

I wonder if they're the same songs, but they're exclusive because of the format -- one in which comes with the CD (as a bonus disc, or just added on), and the other access to download the MP3s.

Anyone know which two songs they are?

the best buy songs are:

"Emma Kate's Accident"
"Version 2.0"

they are on the CD itself. after the album's 11 tracks, they are not 'digital' tracks.

no idea of the Target exclusive songs, sorry.

Thanks for the 411. That's good enough. I like to have hard copies of the songs, so I'll probably go the Best Buy route.

for the completist the first UK single from this new release includes a remix of the title track, 'The Party' and another non-album track: 'We Were Lovers' (on the CD single) 'England' on one 7inch vinyl and 'Version 2.0' (on the second 7inch vinyl)

The two Target songs are "The Once and Future King" and "Secrets".

Looks like the iTunes version comes with the song "Cain Said to Abel" and a video for "I Still Remember."

Plus, some US indie record stores are giving away a bonus vinyl 7" with the songs "The Prayer" and "England", in lieu of actual bonus tracks on the CD. So be on the lookout for those, too.

Indie Record Shops:
CD + bonus 7" - "The Prayer"; "England"

First UK Single:
CD single - "Weekend in the City" remix; "The Party"; "We Were Lovers"
7" single #1 - "Weekend in the City" remix; "The Party"; "England"
7" single #2 - "Weekend in the City" remix; "The Party"; "Version 2.0"

God I hate these stupid "different exclusives for different retailers" things.

that's usually the case for British bands they right a slew of songs, then which are whittled down to the album tracks, the remaining ones become 'bonus, non-album' tracks on the CD, b-sides to the vinyl releases.

Question: are the Target extra songs - downloads or actual tracks on the CD?

Acutal tracks at the end of the CD. The back cover has them listed as "Bonus Tracks".

Oh and they probably will. 6 months down the road, don't be surprised to see a "Special Edition" of the album, with all the bonus tracks collected on a second disc.

which will defeat the purpose of these new multiple releases. I would see this more as a UK special edition, but not as a US domestic release.

This practice really bugs me. It hurts the fans that buy it right away, its worse than double-dipping on dvds. They should at least put the extra tracks on a separate disc priced as a single. I'm going to Target, I hope some one I know buys it at BB so we can trade extra songs.

so there's a remix of the 'Weekend in the City' on the UK CD-single? The CD single version of 'The Party' is actually a remix also:

The Prayer [Phones Metal Jackin' Mix]

Another thing I'm not sure if anyone's answered yet, is which are the better bonus tracks?

Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

The Once and Future King has a Helicopter type vibe to me, I like it.

It would be cool if someone can come up with a compilation of all the bonus discs. Some of us can email someone the MP3s, and that person can be responsible for compiling it and burning it onto a disc.

I have an empty 2-disc cd case. I wouldn't mind adding a disc with the extra tracks (from emusic, target, and itunes) to include with my Best Buy-bought cd. There can be certain discs made that will include the extras they don't have, and exclude the ones they do have.

What does everyone else think? This is a good idea for those who actually spent money on the cd, but feel a little cold after finding out there's all these extra bonus tracks out there.

I have eleven tracks in all:

Atonement
Cain Said to Abel
Emma Kate's Accident
England
Rhododendron
Secrets
Selfish Son
The Once and Future King
Version 2.0
Vision of Heaven
We Were Lovers

I'd still like to get ahold of "The Party," and wouldn't mind having higher bitrate versions of the ones I do have.

For what it's worth, many of these tracks are significantly better, IMO, than the ones on Weekend, save for "Hunting for Witches." This is what they should've released instead!

I could supply you with 320 kbps of Rhodendron, Emma Kate's Accident, and Version 2.0 if you need those in higher quality.

I'd love to get a copy of that ultimate bonus CD. Especially now that you say it comes off as a better album when collected all together. (At a couple of listens, I'm dissapointed with the new album, when I compare it to Silent Alarm.)

Email me and we can talk about compensation, or just organizing something.

Cosmic Bus mentioned 3 songs that hadn't been listed so far so I thought I'd give the sources for those...

"Selfish Son" is a Napster exclusive bonus track to the CD ("Weekend In The City" on Napster)

"Vision Of Heaven" is a PureVolume exclusive available for free download (PureVolume)

"Atonement" doesn't appear to be an official bonus/exclusive track, but rather an outtake from the recordings. Check music blogs/p2p for this one.

That's pretty crazy that 3 digitial download sites each had different bonus tracks and 2 retailers also had different tracks from those.

Atonement was a pre-order only exclusive track with iTunes US.

Thanks, missed that source.

The wiki community has a pretty good summary of the extra tracks seen here: A Weekend In The City (Wikipedia link)

They list a remix of "The Prayer" on there (Does It Offend You, Yeah? Remix), so in the efforts of completeness, there are also 3 other remixes I have seen of "The Prayer" - Para One Remix, Phones Metal Jackin' Remix, and Break & Silent Witness Remix. All 4 are contained in the iTunes US "The Prayer" EP.

I don't know why I'm so interested in tracking down all these songs considering I thought the album was pretty disappointing! So far I agree with some others that have said these extra tracks are better than a lot of the songs on the proper album.
