I was too young to have seen (or wanted to see) the Indiana Jones trilogy, Back to the Future trilogy, 2001 a space Odyssey, The Abyss, Terminator 1&2, Apollo 13 IMAX. Theres probably places to see 2001:, and I don't know if IMAX still features Apollo 13, but the others would be hard to come by in full theaters. Ah, to own a movie theater....

some of you guys need to come over to the AFI Silver (Silver Spring, MD), 'Lawrence of Arabia' is extremely popular on the big screen, they continually reshow it as well as '2001'.

I would love to see 13 Tzameti in the theater. I want to see if everyone freaks out just as much as I did watching it for the first time. I swear my heart has never pounded so much while watching a movie. This is the most intense movie I've ever seen.

I would like to see Forrest Gump, I had never even heard of this movie until I rented it. A friend had recommended it to me.

Purely for sentimental/nostalgia reasons: It was the last movie I saw in a theater with my mother and to this day it's one of my favorite movie-going experiences.

Well, I've never seen La Regle du Jeu in a theater, so that would be a treat. In the coming month I'll finally get to see Celine et Julie vont en Bateau, so that's one I can check off the list. And, although I've probably seen Paris, Texas more times in a theater than any other movie (with the possible exception of Fellini: Satyricon), it's been a long time since I've seen it in a theater, probably at least 20 years, so I'd love to have that experience again.

What about Playtime? That film requires a 70mm viewing. I've never thought about owning the DVD; I think it would be a waste of time.

yup, they showed a 70mm print, only once Seeing this in 70mm was truly amazing, even last year's "Hello Dolly" was an event in itself. 70mm at the Silver is a treat.

funny you should mention this film, I just saw a 35mm print and can't imagine not experiencing this without a crowd, there's a lot humour that is best appreciated with an attentive audience.

well, yeah... duh, that aint new news...

well, the AFI's screen doesn't curve like the Uptown, I would think the Uptown's screen is actually larger. Screen-image brightness is better controlled at the AFI. The are less seats than the Uptown's since the AFI doesn't have a balcony - I don't have an official number, but the seats at the AFI and better spaced and have great leg room. Sound is better at the AFI, since one, it's THX certified and secondly the numerous surround sound speakers aren't configured like the (Uptown's: surround speakers placed in front of the balcony and reverbed from the front seats to the back), speakers at the AFI appropriately 'surround' the listener.

Having seen the trailer for Danny Boyle's Sunshine in the theater recently, the presence of Clint Mansell's often-stolen, booming score in theater surround made me want to see Requiem For a Dream. It may not be the film most designed for the larger format, but it would be more immersive and probably a great experience.
