Save more money with Price Protector!
I had the Amazon 30 Day guarantee thread a few weeks back, but this is even better. You enter in the URL of whatever you purchase, from a number of different retailers, online or B&M.
Then the site checks the price on the item, and sees if the price goes down at that same store, over a 30 day period. (Currently they don't check prices across stores). If the price lowers, you'll be alerted, and you can obtain the difference according to the rules of whatever store you chose.

This service was reviewed in the October 2007 PC World magazine. They gave it an overall score of 85 (Very Good) with the following summary review: "Service makes collecting on refunds easy; it'd be even better if it tracked competitive store prices." For free, it seems like it's worth a shot.

Yeah it's good stuff, it does the hard work for you, and if there's a sale it'll alert you. These days it'll probably be pretty useful for new releases that get put on sale weeks later. Hopefully they'll cross reference stores down the line.

They are apparently offering people a $100.00 refund, if they purchased an iPhone before the price drop (and outside of Apple's 14 day Price Guarantee). It was in that story that I read that American Express had discontinued their Price Protection program.

Wanted to give this a bump because I have been amazed at the number of times the price fluctuates within the 30 days of purchase from Amazon.
I received a $3.50 refund on one disc (2 price drops) and another $2 (1 price drop) or so on another. That might sound trivial, but I basically got money back on both orders. For doing no work, except checking e-mail, you can't beat it.

I wonder how reliable this is since it goes off a URL (rather than a SKU/ASIN/etc.) and URLs can change or alter from one visit to the next. Or have they found some method to account for these sort of URL deviations?

I used this for a few purchases lately at Amazon.com and it's been great. It notified me of a $10 drop in the price of a scanner that I probably would not have remembered to check on my own. Also some DVD price reductions of a buck or less. Every little bit helps.
