Plenty of opinion at DVD Talk, too. The DRebels are great cameras. The first one, the 300D (Rebel) was severely handicapped by Canon, to keep from cutting into sales of the 10D. It was basically a 10D with plastic body and purposely limited features. Someone hacked the firmware and by the end of its life cycle, it had nearly all the features of its big brother.
Canon learned their lesson with the Rebel XT (350D) and included most of the features of the 10D, basically what had been included in the 300D hack. The XT is significantly smaller than the previous Rebel, so if you have large hands, it may not work well.
In my opinion, I'd spring for the XTi because it has a self-cleaning sensor. It cleans itself every time you turn it on or off. Nothing worse than taking a bunch of pictures with a nice, blue sky in the background, only to find huge black spots when you get home. It will cost you a bit more but you'll also get another 2 MP to boot, and it will save you plenty of headache.
Rumor has it that Canon is readying the release of the 40D, an upgrade to the 30D with autoclean and maybe 10 MP.
Buy:
