Which disc do you feel was the best overall DVD released in January 2007?

Take into consideration the film, audio/video quality, and special features - NOT only the film!

Yojimbo and Sanjuro....classics

I say Passion of the Christ. Few audio commentaries, one technical, one historical, numerous features on making and historical, and that cool pop op thing during the movie about which scene is located in the Bible.

A close second, would be Criterion's Monsters and Madmen. I haven't got it yet, but from what I reaad and saw it seems like a good collection.

I went with SAW III: Uncut Edition, but specifically to highlight the complete package found in the Target Exclusive edition; it was a neck-and-neck race with SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, but there are still debatable color-balance and muted audio issues (not to mention too much cropping of the frame vs. any prior SotL release) that stop it from being a grand slam...

Although i'm not sure if I will pick it up, the Pedro Almodóvar Collection looks the best.

I like Almodovar's films, but a box set of previousily released dvd's hmmm... is there anything new or exclusive to this box?

Silence of the Lambs, The Passion of the Christ, and Brokeback Mountain are re-releases that only includes new additional Special Features.

Quite the opposite in fact! There are extras on the old single discs that are not on this set.

Strictly speaking, this is false. At least in the cases of BROKEBACK and LAMBS (let's just say PASSION isn't my kind of thing to have ever checked for myself), the new DVDs offer remastered transfers over the previous releases. If new picture and new extras don't qualify a title for the vote, I don't know what does (especially in such a quiet new release month like January).

I'd have to say The Marine Unrated only because it was the only January release I've seen.

Hmmmmm I didn't get much this month. I'd say a close race with SNAKES ON A PLANE and The Marine. The Marine's announcement said commentary and since it didn't deliver,I'll go with SOAP!

Newly remastered transfers or not, they're still the same movies ( which was what I've meant.) And if you haven't seen Passion of the Christ, you've missed an extremely good, and powerful film.

What has me confused is, why would a DVD that was only 8 months (Brokeback) old need a new transfer? WTF!

I voted for Yojimbo & Sanjuro by the way.

Then I'm still at a loss--why do you imply this fact should make them ineligible for this poll?

And if you haven't seen Passion of the Christ, you've missed an extremely good, and powerful film.

My loss. Sorry to all its fans that I still sleep quite soundly at night...

I went with Passion of the Christ

This thing is loaded. Three commentaries, a trivia track, extensive documentaries. Only missing 2 things. A bloopers reel and a DTS track. Other then that great special edition

Oh, how I would love a blooper reel for Passion of the Christ.
