Are the actual movies/extras in this set different from the original 3 sets of Bond releases?

Look like Amazon's own bundle - much like their series set bundle of Arrested Development...

I think you're asking if these are different from the Special Editions that came out a few years ago, so I'll answer to that. With the exception of Die Another Day, I believe all the extras from the SEs are in the Ultimate Editions. For some inexplicable reason, the DAD SE extras didn't make it. The UEs have some new extras for all of the movies. All the UEs have new DTS soundtracks. The video has been cleaned up and is an improvement in nearly every movie. In the case of the Connery-era films, the video improvement is spectacular. There are a couple of issues - framing differences in Goldeneye and A View To A Kill as compared to the SEs. There are also some color timing issues in a few scenes that some people have questioned, but taken as a whole the presentations are a big improvement. Threads to check out for more info:

Reviews of each of the UEs:

Screenshot comparisons (I think they show how well they've been cleaned up, but make some things seem like problems that aren't - or at least make the problems seem bigger than they are.):

I never got use out of the first batch so I certainly won't be rebuying.
Turns out only a few of the films hold up for me.
I couldn't make it thru almost any of the Roger Moore ones, except L&LD.

I'm wondering if there will be this same set at DDD for the 20% off sale.

Like many shows which have "The Complete Series" with a discount. That's how I got Star Trek: The Next Generation's run so cheap.

DDD worked out to $43.xx during the last sale (i ordered the first 2 only since the last 2 werent out yet. So looks like you save about $7 plus whatever shipping is by going with DDD, assuming the price doesnt change.

I've never seen a single James Bond film.

I could either buy this or continue never seeing them...

Anna:

I have a massive DVD collection that includes everything from fluff to Criterion, but very few James Bond. Most of them have the same rehashed plot: Bond encounters hot chick who helps him defeat another master criminal bent on dominating the world in some way. Master criminal/psychopath possesses advanced technology, private army, expansive facilities, and crush on hot chick.

What sets them apart and, for me, forms the basis of selecting Bond films are:

1. Connery,
2. The best villains,
3. And hot chick of choice.

You might wish to incorporate the first two criteria to form the basis for your selection, or the third as well, depending on…uh…your “orientation.”

Best wishes

They are just selling 4 bond boxes together as bundle. I was hoping that they would come up with new release/product (ONE compact box set) just like 40-dvd bond set in Europe. They could add 2 dvds of Casion Royale as well.
