Guys this is coming out on Tuesday

What would be the Best DEAL with SAW3?

Looks like each and every B&M store has an exclusive thing to offer?

Was it really that unrated for this SAW3 version? or it would be like its previous prequels which by October (near halloween) a special edition DVD comes out?

Target looks like the best deal with a bonus DVD (which appears to have more material than the other bonus DVD offered with SAW III, listed in the nest sentence) and exclusive cover. Circuit City is next with their own bonus DVD. Coming up behind is Best Buy with only a film cell. No word on any exclusives with Wal-Mart. I'm getting both Target and Circuit City editions.

I think I am gonna wait and see if there is going to be a 2-disc special edition around halloween, like they have been doing. If not, I'll Just pick up the single disc unrated during the holiday season 2007.

Whether or not there will be a 2 disc edition is unknown yet, but Saw IV is due out this October, so....

There is a questionable mark there.. despite this release is "unrated"

Would the second release is "unrated-special edition" ?

I actually like the SAW3 Bes buy exclusive, so that's where I'm going for...Target's bonus disc is on the evolution of amanda. Kinda lame if you've been watching the series.

To each their own but I'm first and foremost a DVD collector; I'm perplexed when people choose a non-bonus DVD offering over a bonus DVD one.

Any word on a package deal @ Wal-Mart? Last week, they had TCM: The Beginning packaged with the 2-disc Platinum Edition of the remake for a meager $17.96.

Target - Lenticular (unconfirmed- But xage is spreading this hint) Deluxe Edition.
Bestbuy - With free Film Cel (senitype)
CircuitCity - With free bonus DVD 'Decathlon of horror'
Futureshop - Looks like the same as the Target Exclusive
Walmart - ???

We had the Target Exclusive today in the store and I did not notice it as a lenticular cover, but I was in a dark stockroom so I'm not 100% sure. I also noticed that the Blu Ray version comes with a cardboard dust cover also.

FYI the Target exclusive is NOT a lenticular cover, just an exclusive slipcover different from the regular release. Also the Target I shop at had 6 copies only of the exclusive edition, plenty of full screen versions and NO widescreens. I think they are holding back the widescreens so people will buy the exclusive edition...

I went to Kmart this morning and picked up SAW I,II,III. The ad shows that you buy III for 17.99 and you get I and II for 2.99 each. Well in the ad they have the deluxe 2 disc versions printed. At the store they tried to tell me only the regular versions were 2.99. I fought them tooth and nail and they finally caved in to shut me up. Unfortunately they only had the SE of II, I got stuck with the bare bones of SAW I but i'm going to try another Kmart on the way home...

I don't think that any Targets are holding back the widescreen versions of Saw 3. My store did not get them until Monday morning (we usually get them a week in advance) so I think there might have been delays either from the movie company or our Target distribution centers. They should have plenty in the next couple days.

No go at CC because they didn't have any of the 2-disc of Saw I or II. I went to BB and they wouldn't give me their price of $15.99 for Saw III but they sold me Saw III for $17.99 (K-Mart's Price) plus $2.99 each for the 2 Disc of Saw I and 2-Disc of Saw II. K-Mart's ad does in fact show the 2-Disc version of both I & II. Not bad I guess.

Well, I ducked Wal-Mart's bullet, but not Circuit City's; their bonus DVD is apparently nothing but trailers for other Lionsgate horror films--nothing SAW-related. I made out like a bandit. I thought I would give it a shot and see if Bestbuy would let me get Saw 3 and Crank on Blu-ray 2 for $25 deal. I know it was for the dvd versions, but I went up to the cashier with the add and I guess she wasn't paying attention and she let me slide. I ended up getting 2 copies of Saw 3 on blu-ray as well as Crank and Employee of The Month on Blu-ray too my total was 54.76 for all for blu-rays I guess today is my lucky day!!!

I went to K-mart and they were out of Saw I & Saw II, so then I went to CC. They didn't have the deluxe editions, so I went to Best Buy. I talked to the customer service manager, and she did the price match, but then again, I was with my friend, and the manager was my friends cousin, so this might have had something to do with it.

Are you new to the SAW franchise on home video?

Why would I have to be new to the franchise to ask that question?

Saw - slip cover has UPC code on it.

Saw II - Black keep case with cover art w/ UPC - slip cover with slot to see UPC on cover art

Saw III - clear window slot for upc code sticker that looks so cheap.

Saw III is the only one that has the cheap looking sticker on a clear keep case. Not impressed.

First of all, you're mixing your SAW DVDs by including the Uncut Edition for Part II; all three standard (first) releases are in clear slipcovers, which I thought was the jist of your complaint--that the clear slipcovers looked cheap. I didn't realize your focus was primarily on the UPC formatting. Which leads me to, who gives a shit about the UPC?! Is that not the single most uninteresting element to any DVD cover?!

tried to price match at best buy. i was told that because it says "quantities limited" they can not price match. to their defense, it is clearly stated in their price match policy, but they wouldn't even try calling kmart to see if they had it in stock.

why do they even bother with price match policies if they create so many reasons NOT to do so?

darmok
01-23-07, 09:13 PM
this is pretty (unintentionally) funny. i thought i heard it all here regarding dvds. didn't know there were people fixated on UPCs, whether slipcovers had them or not. weird!

Did I read that correctly 12 minutes of featurettes on the bonus disc? That sounds like a rip off to me. I should have just got the 2 for $25 deal at Best Buy and spent an extra $6 for a movie. Oh well...I least I didn't get the 1 hours worth of trailers bonus disc from Circuit City.

I agree with you, but it seems like Xage is a huge collector of exclusives and additional editions of movies. So if that's what he (or she) wants to do with their money, and it's not putting a strain on them financially, then let 'em be happy. Personally, I'd rather have more films than three copies of the same film with some exclusive extra or trinket or whatnot.

I would never do it, because I have no money :) But I know from his posts that he is a huge exclusive collector, and does keep a lot of his stuff wrapped. I think it's pretty cool.

I think there was another person who posted a picture of their DVD collection in the thread and they had whole shelved dedicated to one movie and had multiple copies of each (both region 1 and region 2, I believe).

I purchased the Target set to get the second disc. Got one at CC (which was a crappy second disc) for my gf's nephew so i could get the see through type slipcase. Took his disc out, put it in a standard black single box, printed out a scan of the cover, kept the clear one for my own collection since the target one has a pretty crappy cover. Does anyone else print out custom covers to put under the clear slipcase? I have done that for all three. Put a severd hand on white paper for saw I, billy on saw 2 and the poster w/ the open mouth for Saw 3 so the three teeth on the slipcase are near where its pulled out. I really dig it that way.

Just think about what your family will do with all this crap when you pass on...I got some news for you...When you pass away you are NOT taking your multiple copies of Saw III and numerous copies of Evil Dead with you....

I went to BB today and picked up SAW III along with The Descent on the 2 for $25 deal. They didn't have the Uncut Edition of Saw I, but I did picked up the Uncut Saw II and pricematched to K-Mart for $2.99. Manager didn't even blink.

So I picked up Saw II UC, Saw III, and The Descent for $28! :D

You know what's weird about that. I got mine when it first came out, and the blood is disappearing :(

I'm just thinking, at a certain point, that level of disposable income would be far more useful being given to charity (a hundred people in Africa go without retroviral drugs for every duplicate DVD bought), but hey, whatever gets you through the night...

filmmaker, you're one to talk, you're collection is around 1100 dvds? and a wish list with 1300 more? your soapbox isn't that sturdy. But hey, whatever gets you through the night...

Heh, then why do you own 1100 DVDs? Go sell them and give the money to charity.

Jeez...you people are acting like he's taking the money out of your wallets to go buy his DVDs...

How about a little perspective, my always-getting-up-on-the-wrong-side-of-the-bed DVDTalk friends? I said "at a certain point"; I'm not asking people to be fuckin' Ghandi here, I'm just suggesting a little perspective. If you guys are seriously going to equate owning one DVD with three, four, five of the exact same one (rinky dink bonuses aside), then I give straight the fuck up and would be honored if you and your ilk would stop, in the words of the ever-PMSing Sabrett, "paying attention to my posts".

Does anyone think a box set of all three movies will come out? I don't own any edition, so not sure if I should wait or not. Also xage or anyone, which are the best editions to buy of each of the three movies? I just might buy one of each film. Thanks.

I would go for the uncut version for the first two, and then see if you could get your hands on the Target exclusive for the third film.

Saw 4 has been announced, so I doubt a box set would be released any time soon.

You still have time til Tommorow to pricematch Kmart's Ad with Bestbuy and do get the SAW 1&2 Uncut for $2.99 each and SAW3 unrated

rough cost estimate would be below $25 for the three.

Thanks Sab, Sni and xage. My Sunday paper doesn't have a Kmart ad, can I print off the page from the ad online or need the physical paper? I will grab the Saw 1/2 uncut, and then either BB or Tar Saw 3. Thanks again!

Just got mine at BB, did the pricematch at customer service immediately after the purchase. Saw ended up being 70 cents, and Saw II $1.20 thanks to the 10% of the difference... I had the K-Mart ad, but the clerk didn't even look at it. She just said "K-Mart?" and I said "Yeah..." and she quickly did it. Apparently they have done a lot of those price matches. There were only 2 copies of Saw II left at my store.

Dude I hope Im not late in response while the day has not ended. Try going to Kmart.com and go to their weekly ad section.

My best advise print the 1st page (the front cover) and the page were SAW series was offered. (front page is a big help on the date when that weekly ad was published)

I must say, out of the many editions of the dvds out right now. the best by far is the two disk, bloody case, of saw 1. this case just looks fantastic. i guess now its hard to find. i picked it up around saw 2's release. for those trying to figure out the best combo for all three movies i would go (and i own) the saw 1 SE two disk bloody case (if you can find it), saw 2 SE two disk holographic case :), saw 3 two disk (target exclusive). that i think is the best combo until LG goes double dip. as much as i hate double dip i love it. anyway what do you guys do with your "not as good DVDs" once the studio double dips? do you keep it or sell it? i sell mine to a store called "last stop cd shop".

They did release 2 editions of the Saw Uncut 2 disc. The other one is in a regular case (the one to the right of the blood case in xage's picture). Both editions have the same UPC code.

xage thank you. I hope it's the blood, I will report if it is when it comes in case anyone else needs it. If not time to do eBay because now I want that set. I got the Saw 2 lenticular on Amazon MP for $20 new sealed. Working on getting the Target edition, I might opt for the rarer hand cuffed with arms 2-disc of Saw 3 instead.
