I bought Gladiator EE back when and I'll tell you its worth it, especially for ten bucks. The extras on the disc are qutie good. A whole lot better than the History Channel docs.

well, it says "special edition". The 2001 Special Edition has been out of print for a few years now and it's only been the bare-bones fullscreen version that's in print currently. If they just said "Silence Of The Lambs" without the Special Edition part, I wouldn't have asked

I just bought Gladiator 3 disc, Kingdom of Heaven 4 disc and the Blackhawk Down extended versions in the last week. I paid approx $19 each after using google checkout at buy.com and dvdplanet and I thought I got them for pretty prices. $10 is a smoking deal on Gladiator.

I've actually seen that one before...I can't remember where though.
however, in my experience wandering about, the silver bar on the film is usually the way (with Silence, specifically, I mean) to know it's FS :S
But again, I think I've seen that one, that just says "Special Edition" and it wasn't the FS incarnation of the red-topped WS. I forget what it was exactly, though...may have still been FS, may have been WS, but it was a weird middle ground release.

I'm planning to check my Target and Fred Meyer as well. Our Target is about 10 miles away (Albany), but I'm making a Costco run today so I'll swing by Target. If they have it, I may just buy it, then come back during the sale to get a refund for the difference. Our local Fred Meyer (Corvallis) will price-match to Albany Target, but they sometimes put up a fuss about doing it until I get a manager involved.
One possible outcome of getting it from Target is if they are out of stock, you should be able to get a raincheck which would show the %-off value (in this case about 60% if you assume they normally sell it for $25). If they continue to be out of stock, you should be able to use it towards another DVD and get the 60% off. That's what they let me do with a couple rainchecks I had when they were selling Casino for $4.
Of course this could all be moot if the ad picture is wrong and they intended to sell the 1-disc version.

Didn't find it at either Target or Fred Meyer. The Target guy looked in a book that had all the barcodes of their DVDs. We found the single-disc Gladiator listed, but not the 3-disc. Fred Meyer has no easy way to check inventory, but the sales person thought he had seen it a couple months ago, so they may be out there. Sounding more like this is either a "wrong picture in the ad" or that they may be getting a special shipment of them just for the sale. I guess we'll know in a week.

Great price on Gladiator. Unfortunately, I bought it for around $27 when it was first released. But it's a great DVD, so I don't really regret it.
I might need to add Unforgiven to my collection. It's been $10 before, but I always seem to pass up on it and regret it later on. :)

There's something wrong with that item, either the description ro the model number. Model number MVDR2100 cooresponds to a DVD Recorder, which usually sells for around $160. E.g.:

I wouldn't give up if they tell you on the phone they have no Gladiator EE's in stock. Target uses a DCPI# system for every product. 123-45-6789
If the ad doesn't show that number, you can get one of the stock guys to type in Gladiator in their scanner and it should tell them if there are any in stock. I've done this numerous times, and the items I'm looking for are always setting in the stock room.
Or...if you actually found the bar code some place in the dvd section, it should list the DCPI# on it. You could also type that number into one of their price checkers and it will also tell you the price, location of the item, and if they have any in the stock room. I'm going to 2 Targets this morning and if I'm lucky enough to find a copy, I'll report back here.

Was at the Queens Blvd. Target bright & early this morning, &, surprise, no Gladiator EE, altough they had the 2 discer for $10 (gotten bad feeling when I saw this) . Got help from a worker & he told me to check back on Tuesday since they did not have this in stock. When I questioned about the ad being possibly wrong, he said he had not receive any word from corporate about it.
OK, got back home & figured i'll price match it at Best Buy or Circuit City later in the day. Quick check on line showed that Best Buy shows the EE as "unavailable" in all 5 NYC stores, & for Circuit City, well they just don't show it.
Not holding my breathe about them getting it in on Tuesday!!
Went to the Rego Park CC this afternoon & got "the next to the last" one. Had no problems price matching it !

I just returned from Target and the Gladiator is a misprint of the picture. Target only has the current edition for $10. I asked an employee about it, he was puzzled and also thinks its a misprint in the ad.
This may not be true for all Targets. If your Target carries the ext. edition you may be in luck, but otherwise I would price match either wm or bb.

Yes Target here in MA had no Gladiator Extended Editions...HOWEVER....there is a Walmart within 10 miles of this Target and they had 3 sets in stock for $23.97. I took the set to a cashier and got the $10 price match no problem. Walmart rarely if ever calls the stores to verify price matches....Good Luck!

My target was clueless, they only had 1 of the $10 DVD's(One flew over the...)
The clerk had no idea about the ad.
He showed me the regular edition priced at $13.72
So I went to Circuit City right across the street.
They had 2 copies in stock.
I took 1 to customer service counter for the price amtch.
It was priced at $29.99, but rang up at $24.99.
So they price-matched it at $8.50+.52 tax
I had a $10 gift card from the Christmas Eve sale for spending $100.
I actually spent $100.39. For which I just got a $29.99 on Quicken 2007.
So I still have 99 cents on my gift card.
If you catch these deals, some of them are pretty good.

My Target had all the disks in the ad clustered in one place except Gladiator EE. The only Gladiator DVD in the store was the single-disk version filed with the $13.88 disks, and it scanned at $10.00. They had only one copy and the scanner said "none in the stockroom". I tried getting a rain check, but they could not determine the proper item ID, and gave me a rain check for the $13.88 version, and hand wrote "extended edition". I wouldn't be too hopeful about ever getting this. I was there for about an hour with all the searching and checking and rechecking, and no one seemed to know why the EE version was in the ad. This is not the first time Target has placed the wrong picture in the ad, so you must always use caution there.
I do think the staff were trying to be as helpful as possible, but they had no information given to them about this issue.

I too just got back from the local target where they were selling only the 1 disc old version for $10.00 (regular price $13.88)... so I went to wal-mart where they had 2 of the extended versions... took them both to the register and showed the ad... girl at check out didn't even blink - just over-rode the price to $10.00... got them both for just over $21.00 after tax! (checked last night at my local best buy & circuit sh*itty but neither of them had the extended version in stock)...

Just like there previous ads. Whenever Targer shows these special editions at a very cheap price, they are going to be a misprint. You have to take the ad and have another B&M store price match it. I would do it fast though before Target puts up a disclaimer and other stores won't price match it no more.

No luck at the first 2 Targets I went to and none at the first Best Buy. I had a feeling that Circuit City would have it and it they did (3 copies at the Niles store if you are in the area, I only bought 1). They were somewhat hidden and not in the normal action area, but under the racks with other sets. Price-matched down to $8.50, less then $10 with tax.

I kept it...I don't think any of the extras (and of course the original cut of the movie) are carried over to the EE.

Same here, Target was clueless and only had a 1 discer. The other special editions in the ad were marked at regular price. Went to CC and price matched the last one in stock, although it took a little bit of convincing.

I would certainly keep the 2-disc set with DTS. It's been long OOP. Not to mention the DTS is fantastic.

but nicely done was the 'best-sellers' section of the warner 2-disc

My local Target also only had the one disc version of Gladiator, but did not have any version of Unforgiven. The two closest Circuit City and Best Buy stores did not have them either. But I did manage to PM the last copy of Gladiator: EE at my local Waly world. By the way, is the Unforgiven: SE advertised also a misprint?

How accurate is the stock status for Best Buy if you select in-store pickup? My closest BB shows that Gladiator EE is unavailable. However I know that in the past, people have reported items being unavailable, and yet they are sitting right on the shelf. Do they maintain separate stock for in-store pickup items?

It's hit or miss with BB..Your best bet is to call them and connect to the dvd department and asked them if they have it, they will check and if they have it put it on hold. Don't bother with ordering online, it really sucks..

The store must have three copies to show up as in stock. If they have between zero and two, it will show up as unavailable.

After hitting the local Target and not finding this, I took the ad and pricematched at Circuit City.
Nice looking set. May try to find a second copy for a friend tomorrow.

I was able to price match at WM as well. The cashier almost didn't believe it since it was such a big difference in price. She asked me "it's the same movie?", so i showed her the ad again.

Just priced matched at Walmart (had about 7 copies in fact, which surprised me). After reading the posts, decided a Sunday Night trip out was best to increase my odds of getting it. I also got "the look" (those of you who have price matched this know of what I refer)...... my cashier looked through the entire ad and seemed to really feel the pages, as if to check if I had photoshoped or in some way altered the ad, to get this movie down to this price.
Thanks everyone for the heads up of how it was going at Target. It inspired me to make sure I went out TODAY and not wait until it was more convient later in the week, at which time I may have been out of luck.

I went to Target (knew Gladiator would be the wrong one but wanted Spinal Tap anyway... this is the best version besides the OOP Criterion right?). So I picked up the ad and went to Circuit City. I asked about the price matching, which I had ALWAYS heard was 110%. The guy at the register told me it was 110% if I bought something and it dropped in price at another store or CC within 30 days, otherwise it was just a price match. He then noncommittally said he would "work something out for me though". When I got to the counter again it was a girl, the other guy was gone. She was pretty surprised by the ad, and the whole thing took like 10 minutes (she apparently had to get management approval). Only got 110% on Gladiator, but I also got Something More About Mary: Extended Edition (http://www.amazon.com/Theres-Something-Widescreen-Two-Disc-Collectors/dp/B00008DDGU/sr=8-3/qid=1170056060/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3/103-8712015-1655808?ie=UTF8&s=dvd) for $6.50. She pointed out that it wasn't the same as the ad but I replied that it was all that was there, and the ad did say Special Edition, so it for sure wasn't the regularist edition (http://www.amazon.com/Theres-Something-About-Mary-Widescreen/dp/B0006GANPA/sr=8-1/qid=1170056060/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-8712015-1655808?ie=UTF8&s=dvd) you can get (which was all that was at Target). I'm thinking of giving this a try at my CC. Only thing is, they usually call the local store to see if it's accurate as well as checking whether it's in-stock or not. They won't pricematch if Target say's it's OOS.

Went to Target today. Manager said it was a misprint and they dont have the EE. But I picked up another weekly ad and going to try to price match at another BB/CC.

exactly what i saw when i went to target. sooo i went to walmart and price matched. the lady checking me out couldnt believe the price difference (orig. 24.99), so she called a manager. he looked at the picture in the ad for long time then gave the okay. he said "wow were going to have to change that." hahaha i knew $10 was too good to be true. glad i got by though...what a steal!

I went to Price Match this today at Circuit City since I get an extra 10% off. I took two items up, Gladiator and a CD. She told me she had to call to make sure both were in stock. first was fine then came Gladiator at Target.
I had to wait, and wait, and wait, and wait. I figured I had nothing to lose, I knew Target was aware they messed up, but they just kept redirecting her and basically not helping her out at all. I figured I was out of luck and would have to try Wal-Mart, then eventually she said that she would just give it to me, and if anyone asked they had it in stock. She told me her ear was getting tired and she was waiting for 11 minutes. Got it for $8.50.

I got CC to PM Something About Mary, although they gave me a little trouble. I just said it was the only one over there, and that the ad did say special edition. I was surprised they gave me it though :D
