Mark Steven Johnson to do Ghost Rider

Thought this would be posted this morning when the news came out but i guess not. Anyway, according to Variety, Mark Steven Johnson (director of Daredevil) is going to direct Ghost Rider, with Nick Cage still slated to star. Here's the link from Superhero Hype

http://www.superherohype.com/cgi-bin...9851416,48176,

along with this

http://www.superherohype.com/cgi-bin...9892655,37596,

I guess this is mixed news, as people seemed to either like Daredevil or think it was a piece of crap.

I thought Daredevil had a kind of amateur feel to it. Would've much rather seen Norrington do Ghostrider.

I know that JMS had a meeting with him not too long ago about possibly doing an adaption of Midnight Nation, as well. I'm not sure if anything came out that, though.

Blackheart

Sorry, those are the only names I recognize from some sheet thingy I saw. No cast names.

Well I enjoyed DD, so here's hoping that Ghost Rider is better! Nic Cage is indeed worthy of GR, not Supes.

I wonder if there is any talk about DD2? Well maybe after GR?

Wes Bentley should play Ghost Rider rather than Blackheart. I just can't can Nicholas Cage seriously but I think he's a good actor in offbeat movies like Adaptation and Raising Arizona.

I agree with that. I think NOrrington hasa great visual style. Even the mediocre LXG had a nice look to it. Of course, Norrington so hated working on that film and the result I heard he doesn't even want to make feature films anymore.

Well, Eva Mendez joins the cast now as Roxanne.

I believe principle starts shooting either next week or the week after.

I'm kind of glad they went with Johnson only because as a fan of the comics (Ghost Rider was the only comic I was ever into) I was glad to see him ditch Goyer's crap script that totally bastardized Ghost Rider (you might still be able to find Goyer's script out there, and it was awful). I've read a few interviews with Johnson since then, and he seems to be very familiar with the comics himself and is writing the script himself and it will follow the original Ghost Rider series (Johnny Blaze series, not the Dan Ketch series) where as Goyer's script blended the two different Ghost Riders together and then ripped out all of the appeal the character had.

Long sees 'Ghost' role for Col film

Matt Long, who stars as Jack in the WB Network's "Jack & Bobby," is in negotiations to play a younger version of the title character played by Nicolas Cage in Columbia Pictures' "Ghost Rider," an adaptation of the Marvel Comics title. The movie stars Cage as a former motorcycle stuntman named Johnny Blaze who agrees to let his body become host to a vengeful spirit -- becoming a bike-riding demon in the process -- to secure the safety of his true love, to be played by Eva Mendes. Long would play a young Johnny, who makes the deal with the devil. Also starring are Wes Bentley and Sam Elliott. Mark Steven Johnson is directing and wrote the latest draft of the script. Shane Salerno wrote the original draft. Marvel Entertainment's Avi Arad and Crystal Sky's Steven Paul are producing the project with Johnson's producing partner Gary Foster and Michael De Luca. Matt Tolmach, the studio's co-president of production, is overseeing the project. Long is repped by CAA, One Entertainment and attorney Patti Felker.

I think I feel about movies made from Marvel Comix pretty much how most people around here feel about movies made from video games. Though at least i go into it with no preconceptions and hopes that the film will be good. I'll probably see this.

Never liked Norrington that much, found the first Blade to be merely okay, Blade II was fantastic though, no one can match Del Toro for visual pizazz, well cept maybe Pete Jackson. I loved DD, and especially the Director's Cut, fantastic stuff. Glad to see he's workin on the GR flick.

I agree with all of that, except I feel the complete opposite.

Danny Ketch v. Blackout would have been my choice... but I liked DD enough that I will probably see it when it comes out.

That bike is a piece of unholy ass-kicking coolness! Hopefully they'll let Johnson have his "Director's Cut" the first time round on this picture.

Yeah, same here.

I'm a big Del Toro fan, but "no one can match Del Toro for visual pizazz"? Have you actually watched a movie that isn't a big budget blockbuster? Cronenberg & Kar-Wai just off the top of my head piss all over Del Toro when it comes to "visual pizazz".

Personally I think Daredevil was one of the biggest turds of the past few years both visually & creatively all around. I'm as big of a comic book fan as there can be, & I've never liked Ghost Rider, just one of the most one-dimensional & boring characters ever IMO. Plus, I don't like Nic Cage, so this is one comic book adaptation I have zero interest in.
