Haven't received the 2nd dvd yet; so not too much I can do yet. It was last scanned on Dec 31 about 20-30 miles from here. Not sure what happened to it but it may be lost.

Keeping and fighting the charges.

So far I've had to pay initial international shipping of almost $40 and customs fees of $85.

I've attempted to arrange a cost-free return, but just got the generic, nonsensical reply everyone else gets.

But I can assume that Amazon apparently won't refund international shipping charges (either the initial shipping or the return costs) or the customs fees (considering they incorrectly marked the customs declaration forms, I feel they should).

I'm not about to pay more to return them and eat the loss $125 for items I don't get to keep.

I'm playing chicken with 'em. The end of the month can't get here soon enough, so I can find out who blinks first.

Ditto. But without the customs charges.
I have spend $50 on getting my sets to New Zealand, and Amazon have not responed how they are plan to let me ship the DVDs back to them without it costing me anything or refunding the $50 shipping I paid to get them here.

So, im fighting ..

If they would refund the 2-day shipping costs I paid, I would have no problems returning the sets. But it doesn't sound like they will, so I plan on keeping the sets and fighting the credit card charges.

Keeping and fighting.

But one of my orders I placed, later for a friend, I used my debit card. So I may send that one back, because I refuse to let Amazon wreck havoc on my bank account.

What are other debit users doing?

I'm turning myself in to the police to ease my guilty conscience. All the moralists on the forum covinced me that I'm a dirty rotten scoundrel who deserves to go to jail for getting free DVDs out of Amazon.

Amazon and Columbia House - The legal stuff

Legally, if they sent it by mistake and they didn't charge you then your are not liable for any monies. If you really wanted to you could win in court. Speaking of such, you know when Columbia House offers those deals like 8 movies for 1 penny. You are not legally obligated to make any other purchases! Seriously! You could win in court with this one also.

Im still fighting, but I have also rigged up my credit card so that its actually gone over its credit limit, so there is no way that they should be able to charge me if they try.

Um... you do know that that's bad for your credit, right? And... a lot of credit card companies won't stop purchases for being over your credit limit as long as your account is current... they'll just penalize you for it. I think that this would be especially true if amazon.com simply goes back to amend the previous charges on your card.

Yeah, that isn't exactly smart.

In the 6 years I have had my credit card, I have gone over my credit limit many many times. Never had to pay any extra penalities, and only once have I gotten a letter reminding me that I was over my limit.

USA credit card rules might be different to those in New Zealand..

So, how do you reconcile:

I have also rigged up my credit card so that its actually gone over its credit limit, so there is no way that they should be able to charge me if they try.
with:

In the 6 years I have had my credit card, I have gone over my credit limit many many times.

Are your interest rates higher than they used to be? That, too, is a form of penalty.

I sent 1 order back (that was for a friend) that was payed with my bank debit card. Didn't want Amazon to screw with that. The others I used my Paypal debit/credit card. I just emptied out that account, and have no current auctions going. The wait begins.

Watch out that PayPal does not freeze your account...even if nothing is in it for the
next time you use it..Seen it happen before or they will take it from a credit card or
bank account that you have attached to your account..Just a word of warning..
tks
