I have no friends that picked up the Wii and I held off on buying one just to save a little money.
My younger brother called me today and informed me that my parents were in the other room playing the Wii my older brother got for his family this Xmas.
My mom has never played a videogame outside of one short slide race in Super Mario 64.
...I had to convince her to stop Wii Sports Bowling.

Yeah, Nintendo is really on to something. What's the countdown until MS releases a "Motion Wand" and Sony releases "PlayStick"? The Sony motion controller appears to be an absolute bust.

My parents were so fascinated with my Wii, they got one for themselves. My mom does not play video games with the exception of Yoshi's Cookies, which she plays everyday on her retro Gameboy before going to sleep. They are both in love with Wii Sports. You'd think they'd get tired of it...they don't, and they are really excited for Wii Play.

Yep, my parents, especially my mom, is in love with Wii Bowling and Tennis.
I never thought the Wii would be this huge. I thought it would be a hit, but not like this. If Nintendo can keep a steady stream of games for hardcore gamers(Zelda, Metroid, a RE game, dig up Kid Icarus, SSB:B) and ones for non/casual gamers(Mario, Wario Ware, Animal Crossing, Wii Play), they could be looking at recapturing the video game market.

All Nintendo needs to do is to provide a regular schedule of releases of Wii Sports/Wii Play -type games and it will continue to capture larger "non-gamer" market.
Most people don't have an hour or two a day to devote to gaming. But they CAN spare 10-15 minutes to get in a round of golf or game of bowling. The funny thing is that people rarely stop at 10 minutes.... it ends up being nearly an hour anyways!
The key isn't going to be the Cecil B. DeMille-type epic games (though those are important), it is going to be the pick-up-n-play variety....

Nintendo has definitely scored, my 15 and 17 year old neices are hooked on it too. Who'd have thought you could tap the boy crazy clothes fiend market.

I laid awake last night thinking of the different games they could create and how they would be controlled. It was pretty fun. The one conclusion I came to, was they should have included TWO numchuck controllers with each system and then been able to incorporate dual wielding as part of some games. Would have expanded the possibilities. Since that isn't default, I doubt many games will incorporate dual wielding gameplay.

My overweight (love her to death) 55 year old mother cannot wait to buy a Wii. Tetris and Dr. Mario were the only console games that she has ever played.
Nintendo has done exceptionally well in generating new gamers this generation.

I just overheard the people in the lunch room at my office talking about the Wii as well. These are the people who scoffed when I took the Halo 2 release day off from work. They've all played it too.
