DDD's name is changing Jan '07.
I wonder how their book prices will compare with Amazon's?
They will sell DVDs, CDs, Books and video games.

Why would we say bye to it? They're just merging their sites.

I wonder if they'll have a grand opening sale for the new site? I'd think so.

Worst. Name change. Ever.

Now we'll have to refer to "DDD 20% sale" as the "DD 20% sale".

Well, I dont think they ever included the CD site in the 20% sale and now books!!! And I dont think the last two 20% off sales went as well as expected for DDD.

Yeah, because Amazon, a site that sells movies, cds, books, games, toys, clothes, groceries etc doesn't have any DVD sales either. That would be far too confusing for them.

I got that feeling as well as soon as I heard they were extending the the last sale another week. You could also tell by the the rate at which the buying threads here accumulated (which was slow compared to past years).
Also I'm sure the buy/google sales didn't help matters for them either.

I hope they do continue at least one sale a year, but it doesn't look promising to me- of course, even with the stores combined under one banner they can still limit any future sale to certain products only- just like in the past the sale hasn't worked with pre-orders.
guess we'll know for sure in 6 months.

The move from DDD to DD will be good. Anything bigger than a handful, you're risking a sprained tongue.

Are you somehow implying I do not love bargains? In fact I brought the topic up in the 20% off thread saying that with the change this may be the last 20% off sale. It has been on their website up in the top right corner now since mid November and has been posted about in numerous threads in the Bargain and Store forums. I figure this will pretty much ruin DDD anyhow - I am not excited in the least. I figure the 20% off sale is gone and prices will rise as more and more overhead will be there to cover.

Truth be told, there are better prices to be found on certain DVDs through the year in other sales, but it didn't go as well as expected because they raised their prices on NON SALE items this time around and people knew that. I had my cart full of stuff before the sale started and all of it was not included in any of their current sales when I put them in my cart. The current sales ended, the 20% started, and probably 80% of the stuff in my cart (and on my wish list) went up in price. I can see them taking stuff that was on sale before the 20% started and adjusting them to regular price, but arbitrarily raising prices on most of your stock? That's what pissed people off.

And if they did merge, it would not be difficult for them to limit what you can save 20% on. You add a DVD to the cart, you get 20% off. You add a book or a CD, the discount doesn't come off. It doesn't take a genius to program a site to exclude items from the sale. They did it before with pre-orders, so they can do it with CDs and books, if they chose to exclude them.

DVDPlanet's 20% off sale could be a precursor of things to come. Maybe they're planning to migrate the sale over to that site in the future? I'm certainly okay with that, as the prices are cheaper on Criterions, they have used stuff, and the rest of the prices are fairly even across the board.

We'll see if the 20% off is gone. I'm probably more frugal than you are. I think women are more frugal than men but maybe not.
Do you play your laserdiscs that much anymore?
I don't play my laserdiscs that much now.

I was getting ready to make a big order there. I guess I better do it now. I had planned on waiting and seeing if they had some kind of discount with their new name change. It sounds like everyone is thinking the prices will go up instead.
