Ok here's the problem..I have owned my Panasonic Portable dvd player for over 6 years now, since it was one of the first ones on the market the screen is too small for me now. Last year I bought Magnavox and it lasted a few months then crapped out on me...This year I bought a Kawasaki one at Target and this one is starting to go as half the screen turns white sometimes.
Now I was at Best Buy last week and was looking at a bunch of portable dvd players all on display. I noticed a Sony portable dvd player which was side by side next to a cheap Insignia that was on sale for $69.99. In all honesty the Insignia screen looked better than the Sony! The Sony was close to $200 and the picture was not that great..I noticed BB sells quite a few Insignia portable dvd players, my question is: Is Insignia a good brand? I know for $70 I can't expect much, but damn I want a decent player with a decent size screen to last longer than a year! I paid $600 for the Panasonic many years ago and it lasted a long time. Is there ANY dependable players that last? Any help would be appreciated!

I own one and am pretty happy with it. Doesn't get a TON of use but it's grat for the kiddies on long rides in the car.

Well the problem is I will probably use it daily, so I need something dependable that won't crap out on me. I guess the bottom line is you get what you paid for..

Then you'll have a laptop dying in a couple months.
Toshiba has been one of the best brands for quality. Panny should still be good, too.

I would recommend the brand "Initial". I have the IDM-830 and have used it for 8 hours every day at work for the last year. I have had no problems with it. It also plays mp3's from dvd media which a lot of players won't do. You can check out the different models at http://www.initialdvd.com

insignia is the best buy brand.
there's currently a 10.2" inch screen model, which sells for about 110.
i REALLY recommend going with this one.
i'm amazed at how many have been sold this season.
repeat customers that i see often report back on their last purchase, and i've heard nothing but good things about this model.
myself?
i've had a portable 8 inch insignia for going on three years now.
that's a good sign, obviously.

You sure about that price?
Isn't the 10" closer to $220 and the 8" around $110? If you can get me the IS-PDVD10 for $110, I'll take 2.

10.2 is 179 this week. I'm tempted. Damn battery life if the only holdback.

Debating on getting the 8" for $99 this week. I would probably use it nightly before going to bed. Will ponder it for the rest of the night and decide tomorrow.

Any more recent thoughts about Insignia quality? My GF has an old 7" model that's rated at 2.5 hours, but we've gotten about 6 out of it on a car trip. I'm looking at the model they have on sale this week for 80 bucks, which is rated at 2 hours (model NS-CPDVD7). If anyone can comment on this model, I'd love to know if it's worth the $. Thanks!

I have one (model IS-PDVD10) and the durn thing is so noisy it sounds like it eating the disc up. I have an extended warranty from Best Buy and took it back once. They plugged it in but the music was playing in the store so loud, you couldn't hear the problem. I told them keep it for several days but after they called and I picked it up, it was making the same noise.
If it wasn't for the nearest store being 40 miles away, I'd take it back again.
A defect has to be returned at least three times before Best Buy will replace.
I believe it is their own brand. I'm not sure I'll buy another Insignia product.
