If the audio is going directly into the TV, you don't have any choice but the red/white analog outputs as DVI doesn't carry audio. However, if it's going to a 5.1 reciever you should use optical or coaxial.

I have mine set up in both ways - analog to the TV and coaxial to the receiver. This gives me the choice of using the TV speakers when I don't care about sound much or the receiver when I do. I generally view regular TV shows with the TV speakers and movies with the receiver.

my tv is hooked up via the dvi and i always use my receiver while watching tv, movies, xbox360. So its going through the optical from the box to the receiver. This way you can also get that DD sound for HD.
