Babel -- Due 2/20/07

Paramount will release Babel on 2/20/07 in all three formats. No details on extras yet.

Looks like only extras are going to be a theatrical trailer. Paramount's site lists that under the extras section for the Blu Ray and HD DVD releases.

Here's a link to the Babel page on dvdnn.com

It's probably me, but since Babel will be a big Oscar player, they need to delay it's release, too.

I wont wait for this one. The 21 Grams SE that came later ended up being a let down since the director isn't particularly fond of in-depth special features. This one should be no different.

Well Inarritu participated in the Amores Perros disk which is pretty packed in terms of special features...Hopefully the DDD page for the CE turns out to be the real thing...There has to be a bunch of deleted footage for this one...

I'm unfortunately starting to think so, which terrifies me to look at the regular 1-disc.

Not even a trailer?

Could the Babel DVD end up just like the one for FoOF?

I'm still wondering about a 2-disc set. ign seems to be the only place that says there will be one, but the picture they show is of the 1-disc that everyone else is listing, so I think it's an error on their part. Circuit City also has a 2-disc advertised in their flyer for next week, but that too is also probably an error. The release has likely been cancelled, at least for now, or until after the oscars.
I think I'm just going to get this next week and not wait.
What is your take?

The DVDTalk review says there is only a trailer for "special features."

It's only a one-disc...I've seen the release.

Well that sucks that it only has a trailer for special features. I could care less if its 1 disc or 2 discs but give us some special features WB!

I smell a double-dip, which I'm getting mighty tired of.

Inarritu claimed he had plenty of bonus material for the 21 Grams DVD. I think the Universal one was done without his participation -- I might even go so far as to say, perhaps this is just sort of a screw-job DVD for Universal to get a few more bucks out of it before they license it to Criterion, ala Dazed and Confused - Flashback Edition. I could be wrong, but one can hope.

WB? This is Paramount actually. WB would probably get it right the first time and release both a 1-disc and 2-disc at the same time like they usually do.

They advertised that Backdraft was coming out on the 12th of Sept. instead of the 19th.

So I'll be approaching CC on Tuesday with caution.

I'd say it's a mistake on CC's part, perhaps a 2-disc set was planned but as far as I know (even checked the CC website) it's just a 1-disc DVD, BRD and HD-DVD. Unless there is an exclusive going on or something, don't expect nothing to materialize with the 2-disc set. Make sense for Paramount to release it later.......
