Pitchfork Top 100 tracks of 2006 - Man I am so unhip

I know about 3 songs on this list and I feel like I heard some great new music this year. I guess I'm not hip any more.

How can it be "hip" with Beyonce on the list? (#85)

That's where I stopped reading....

I buy well over 100 albums a year...mostly indie rock...and I haven't heard of about 1/2 of those songs. Pitchfork can be really irritating when it tries to hard to be underground.

I will agree that Beyonce doesn't belong on the list but would argue that Timberlake and Aguilera absolutely deserve to be.

cool, that two tracks from the Hot Chip album made the list.

the TV on the Radio album is good, but I didn't really think the songs were all that memorable.

That list is not good. Tiny Mix Tapes had a much better list last year.

I actually like this list better than the Rolling Stone one, I have not heard of any of these groups but the link to the video or MP3 is great so I can hear what I am missing.

Thank the gods that the Killers are down at #74 - hopefully this will shrink the ego a bit.

Pitchfork might be pretentious, but at least they aren't as condescending like NME.

Built to Spill's "Goin' Against Your Mind" was way the hell too low.

I've heard about ten songs on that list and they've definitely picked the ones I would have picked off of those albums. The list is pretty damned obscure given that I've purchased probably 100 new albums this year, most of which are right in Pitchfork's wheelhouse, and I haven't heard the vast majority of this list... I can't really blame them for that given that most of the tracks I dl'ed from their list sound pretty good to me.

Big ups for picking "Lloyd, I'm Ready to Be Heartbroken" by Camera Obscura which is about the the most beautiful pop song I've heard this year, "The Funeral" by Band of Horses which is just epic, "Farewell" by Boris which beautiful and scary at the same time and "Stuck Between Stations" by The Hold Steady which friggen rocks and has the best intro I've heard in many, many years.

Also, kudos to Pitchfork for all of the free music.
