Broken digipack trays
How do you guys deal with broken digipak trays when a tooth is broken from the center hub so that the disc will no longer stay put? Is there a way to replace the tray itself? I hate digipaks for this very reason.

Bye
Bags Unlimited sells replacements, but actually replacing them isn't so easy. Basically you have to remove the globs of glue that hold the tray on, then glue on the replacement tray. You can either cut through the glue under the tray if you can get to it, or heat it up somehow until the tray will pull free of the goo. Under no circumstances should you just try to pull the tray off, because you'll crease the cardboard and probably rip a lot of artwork off along with the glue.
If you're careful, you can probably crack the tray down the middle (or cut it with shears or something) to give yourself more room to work, since you'll be replacing it anyway. Once it's off, just try to get off as much of the glue globs as you can (if it's stubborn, don't try too hard, it's not worth it). Then you can do one of two things -- either get a hot glue gun and squeeze a couple new globs on top of the old ones (recommended, and looks best), or you can go the easy route and buy little glue dots from Bags Unlimited as well. Depending on how much of the glue is left over, the result may not look all that pretty, but if you're uncomfortable with hot glue (which is really easy once you try, just don't use too much) then glue dots are a little easier. Since you're not gonna get a pristine look that way, you may even want to place the glue dots on different points than the original globs, because if you get too much gunk under the tray, your Digipak might not close the way it used to.
Be careful, and good luck!
