Christy: the Complete Series (March 20, 2007)

I don't know how many fans of this show are on the boards here, but the long rumored series set is finally coming out:
http://www.amazon.com/Christy-Comple...140462-1332842

The VHS set has been in print for years, and it always boggled my mind that if the show was successful enough to justify keeping VHS sets in print why wasn't it on DVD? Glad to see this is finally coming out!

TVshowsondvd.com is getting more information from Fox before they announce the set, but it is coming.

Super show!! For fans of quality family programming (Waltons, Avonlea, Little House, etc.), this is a must-see. Very well-done...good acting, solid scripts, authentic location production. A much-beloved show (although often pre-empted & moved around in the network schedule). We always hated that it was a casualty of "demographics". If I remember correctly, the show had decent ratings (actually, pretty good ratings) but didn't appeal to the right audience. Seems that Christy's audience tended to shop at Savealot & Walmart, which didn't bring in the advertising revenue that some more "niche" programming & "edgier" shows pulled in. Also, other than families with younger kids, it appealed to a slightly older crowd...not the coveted target audience with lots of disposable income & big appetites to match. Not the first & certainly won't be the last quality show to be sacrified this way. Anyway, if you like the shows mentioned earlier, you should also enjoy Christy.

***DON'T READ IF YOU ARE A BONAFIDE 'CHRISTY' FAN WHO IS EASILY DISALLUSIONED***

BTW...We found it a little amusing to see Stewart Finlay-McClennan (sorry, "Mac"...probably misspelled), who played the doctor who loved Christy, on an episode of Six Feet Under. What made his appearance on SFU a bit disconcerting was when he made his appearance in his birthday suit...full-frontal dangling away for the world to see...a far cry from the family-friendly atmosphere of "Christy". It was kind of like when we saw Julie Andrews topless on the big screen for the first time...Mary Poppins, we hardly knew ye!
