Hey all,

First time contribution, hope it helps some people out. I did a price search for the set and found it at BestPrices.com for $36.97 shipped. I know that they're not as reliable as Amazon, but it's worth a shot. I believe that they charge your card right away, but the neat thing is that that allows the Google $10 off of $30 to apply.

I order from Best Prices all the time, without issues. (the only bad thing I can say is that they've raised their shipping $$ to ridiculous levels since the Google deal began).

Obviously, this is a mistake. A lot of vendors were confusing the old Pedro box (Talk To Her, All About My Mother, Bad Ed, Flower Of My Secret) with the new Viva Pedro! 9 disc set.

Amazon made this mistake, but has since corrected it. Nothing wrong with taking a shot that they'll honor the pre-order mistake. They're showing the wrong title and description, but it IS the correct UPC code for Viva Pedro!

Bestprices is legit. I've placed a bunch of orders with them during the google checkout sale, and they've been great. They have a bunch of import CD's and SACD's for the best prices (no pun intended) around. Don't know how they'll handle this, but may be worth a shot.

i used bestprices.com in 2005 for the 3 lord of the rings box sets with the figurines (they were around $25 each). all 3 arrived in great condition! i'm hopping on this one too because i love almodovar!!!! i hope this happens!
btw, dvdempire has the front and back cover of this box set already up for viewing (VIVA PEDRO, same list price of $117.95, same release date in january), and from the back cover this is one wicked box set! law of desire with a very young (before he could speak english) antonio banderas finally on dvd...

Criminy! I gave it a shot as well. Although the Bestprices site description is fairly lacking in detail, not even listing all the films or number of discs, the Part Number there does match the UPC for the set as listed at DVD Empire. There is a 4-film pack that the description matches, but the photo and list price are the 8-film set. I guess we'll see.

I actually already have all of the included films except Matador, but my Law of Desire is Region 2, and I'm hoping there will be remasters of some of the older titles. Plus there's a bonus disc. For $27 it's worth trying!

from the back cover posted at dvdempire, it looks like there are re-masters of older titles, i think WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN is one of them. i remember the older mgm version is a horrible transfer, so hopefully this one is better...what a wickedly funny movie!

Interesting. So the MSRP and UPC are for Viva! Pedro, but the name and description are for the old collection.

They charge. is not just a temporary charge. I've been charged for about 2 weeks now. most temp holds are a few days and this already posted to my account so its definately a charge.

I actually don't mind shelling out this amount in advance for 8 weeks if it legally binds BestPrices into delivering this box-set (and not reneging on it on the basis of some "pricing mistake").

As to your second question: I think Almodovar's work is great but his films are a bit of "an acquired taste".

Amazing, yes, but still not for everybody.

Of his films that I've seen, there's vitually nothing "Hollywood" about them. Very subtle and complex, and not always fast paced. Also subversive and just a little bit experimental.

This process is the usual method of payment settlement at GoogleCheckout. In this case it appears the merchant also does things in this manner, which is atypical of on-line merchants. If you're not happy with the terms then your only option is to shop elsewhere.

I don't think Bestprices will ship these orders unless there's something in their agreement with Google which would force them to do it. I'm guessing Google doesn't want these kind of headaches because of a pricing error committed by a partner and it's probably reflected in their agreement. If that's not the case, I'm expecting a mess with the Google refunds. From reading posts on this site, it appears they have messed quite a bit in that area.

My CC company gives me 90 days from the charge to dispute it which gives me more than enough time to get a reverse.

I'm also not expecting CH to ship it.

You've tossed around the word "fraud" in more than one of your previous posts and perhaps you should try to find a more appropriate word to use. These online merchants have very densely worded terms and conditions that most of us never bother to read because we're aware that they grant these e-tailers a lot of leeway to cancel orders due to price mistakes, etc.
Most credit cards allow you to dispute a transaction for up to 120 days from the posting of the charge. I recently had to get a refund for a magazine subscription on the 107th day after posting (online service never responded to e-mails and publisher told me my subscription was not extended).

Yea, but how many orders are we talking about here. How many of us ordered before the price was corrected, and how many of us made multiple orders. Hopefully, the Google refunds go smoothly (they have every reason to try if they hope to retain us as GCO customers without the $10 and $20 bribes), but don't be surprised if there's a mess. And if it's a mess, I for sure won't shop through GCO without the bribe.

i personally think it is because of the release date somewhat coinciding with the shipping. i've ALWAYS had good luck with best prices, but their shipping isn't the fastest. i had usps tracking numbers with both my confirmation, the long delivery confirmation number (not that spookey shorter us mail out-sourced UPS code overstock and other vendors like walmart have been using lately).

Well, that's the first disappointing thing I've heard about this boxset. I don't like when multiple movies are packaged together in the same housing (like the Aliens Quad set a while back). I like to bring one movie at a time into the living room, and I like to keep it in its slipcase.

Oh well. Still, can't beat the price!!

I received mines today as well. I also echo the sentiment about the packaging as I would have liked individual cases for the films and even more so, I would have really appreciated a booklet. Books have been written about this man, an essay or two and some interviews on print would not have killed anyone. overall it's still the bargain of the year for me.

but last week signed up at www.ch.com where you pay a MEMBERSHIP FEE of 9.95 FREE SHIPPING and you have to chose 2 DVDS from a Very small list to start you off once you sign up you can then log in with an acCOUNT number you get in a WELCOME email a few days later the total for the first charge is usually 10.65 or so 9.95 + TAXES ...

WITH Ch.com you get FREE SHIPPING ON SETS AND DVDS all the time ... Like I ordered the Pedro set for a total of 20.97 + TAX = 22.47 NO SHIPPING ... you have to purchase 2 more dvds within 90 days mine expiration time is April 4th 2007 ... after that you have no DS to decline or anything you buy whenever... the FREE shipping on sets is very cool got EVERWOOD first Season for 17.97 total ...

Normally the wait for me has been a couple of days but that was the regulare TV club and Culumbiahousedvd club ... they charge you card right away with a PENDING CHARGE and if not approved that should drop off in a couple of days..

From what I gathered there is a limited number of movies to choose from it is on the enrollment page ... nothing else...

I guess but with Columbiahousedvd and ColumbiahouseTVclub I have always once my application is approved gotten an email within days ... I don't think weeks would be right maybe you should call them and let them know that you were charged but never got anything ....

I joined columbiahouse last week, and I got my acceptance email in about 4 days after signing up. Also have already received not one but two shipping notices for my enrollment selections (is this normal?). The day I got the acceptance email, I was able to go to the site and order the Almodovar set.

I wonder if it's so cheap because it's being released by Sony and they're just being nice to their DVD club members or it's really an idoiotic mistake.
