Free USPS Package Scale
USPS is giving out a free package scale. The scale weighs packages up to 6lbs.

Don't get your hopes up, folks. These are low-tech. This is what the folks at another site have been getting:
"Metal strips and a plastic base. If the item forces the "scale" to flatten, it's heavier than whatever is marked on that "scale". They can be stacked to measure up to 6lbs."
Of course I ordered one.... I love freebies, even if they just end up going into my kid's playroom to be used as ramps for his toy cars.

This is outstanding. My wife is really active on Paperbackswap.com, and I often have to go out to the post office to use their digital scale to check if something is over 1 pound or over 2 pounds.

I got these a couple of years ago. You put your package on top and if the pointy part underneath doesn't touch the table, you are under that weight level (1 pound increments up to 6 pounds).
Whaddaya expect for free?

I got some a couple years ago as well, and I laughed when they came in. But to tell you the truth, I've actually used them quite a bit. Most of the things I sell on ebay are under 5 pounds, so it makes my trip to the post office a little faster.

I also got these a few years ago during the first promotion. They're actually quite handy when it comes to shipping ebay items. Now with this second promo I'll be able to weigh items up to 12 lbs.

They work, and I think for some package services, they charge by the pound, so that's the level of granularity you need.
Plus they're free.
Of course, if stamps go to 42 cents or something, we'll know why.

I ordered one and the next day one came in the mail. My wife apparently ordered it.
It's ok for estimating. My digital only goes up to 3 pounds so thsi helps out a bit even if its low tech.
