What made this DDD sale different?

DVD Talk Ultimate Edition
Definitely better deals elsewhere. I found better prices on some discs at DVD Planet, BB, CC, and I've grown accustomed to seeing titles on my wish list on sale for prices DDD just couldn't match during the sale (2 for $20 New Line, for example, or the BOGO Paramount deal).

Just wasn't interested in purchasing anything. I don't usually buy much anyway...earlier in the year, I only bought one title.
I work at BBY, so I get a pretty decent discount on stuff as it is.

It's not that other companies were offering better deals, but that DDD's own bargains have been great recently. Their switch from buy-2-get-1-free to buy-1-get-1 sales really sucked up a lot of my money in the last few months. The only thing the sale offered that I hadn't been able to get cheaply in other recent sales was Warner boxsets.

How about their terrible shipping times? I ordered the day the sale started, still have not received my order. (1 dvd)

For me, too much other stuff going on with the then-upcoming Black Friday sales to really get pumped up about it.
I still picked up a couple TV shows that I had been wanting (Wonderfalls and Jamie Kennedy Experiment Season 3) and a $6 Pirate DVD set, but that was it.

Combination for me. 1. Been spending a ton of money at Buy.com, CD Universe, etc. using google checkout, and getting some great deals. 2. Other retailers are getting more competitive anyway with DVD's, and with other deals like family video, there's been some tough competition out there for DDD. 3. I'm just running out of must-own DVD's to buy. 4. I don't buy many movies anymore on DVD, as I buy mostly TV on DVD, animated DVD's for my son, and documentaries like World At War. Even though I haven't bought into HD-DVD or Bluray yet, since I very may well some day, I don't see the sense in buying too many more movies on SD DVD.

I liked to use the DDD sale for Criterion purchases until last summer's sale when the prices were a couple of dollars more expensive per title than in previous sales. That left a bitter taste in my mouth and I was ecstatic to see DVD Planet do their own 20% off sale.

i put other. already acquired many titles through other avenues. plus the glut of other sales google checkout etc. cut into their margin. still invested over 500 though.

Other sales.
PS3 and Wii.
People buying fewer DVDs in anticipation of BluRay/HD-DVD.
People holding off on new releases in anticipation of price cuts or future sales.
People have already bought most of what they want/need to complete their collections.

There were lots of other good deals just before the sale (like the buy 1 get 1 free sales--I got about 30 DVDs during that) and some competing sales during the sale, but I still got plenty during the DDD sale ($400 worth).

I bought a bunch from the B1G1 (something like $3-$4 per movie). There were some good deals with google check out (I picked up My Name is Earl from Buy.com for super cheap). The WWII documentary from DDD was crazy cheap during the 20% off sale....definitely a hot item.

I voted for the first choice Better deals elsewhere but it was also Little or nothing of interest to buy. There were good black friday deals. Another thing was going to buy some tv shows from DDD but with Warner shows (MSRP $60) I don't want to buy more then $20 for things on the list like Lois and Clark S2-4 or Veronia Mars s2 since many sets go to $20 or less now on B&M sales ie Smallville and Gilmore Girls seasons for $14.88. I can wait with all the backlog to go through there is no need to rush buying when it first hits. Spent about $160 and would have liked to have gotten the complete alias set but wasn't able to found it on ddd during the sale. For shows with a MSRP of $40 like fox shows my target price is about $15 so i did end up picking up season 3 of arrested development.

I picked Other. I found enough to buy at DDD and then Dvdplanet came along (Criterions) but not like in the past. Also, I have so many unwatched titles.
I wonder if DDD will even have the sale anymore when they combine with DDDCD and start selling books to in 2007.

i dont think this was a failure or anything..we did have 3 closed threads, with some people even buying the usual 1000's of dollars...they do NOT cancel, they still do good business

How long does it take to receive DVDs from DDD? Both my wife and I placed orders at the very beginning of the sale (11/10), both orders shipped by that Monday 11/13 and neither has arrived. DDD has not replied to our emails. When should I expect these? Is there a customer service number?

I had absolutely no interest in their sale this year..With the great Barnes & Noble 25% sale plus the 10% AAA there was no reason to give DDD my money this year. Plus with B&N I had my items FAST not like DDD where you have to use a crystal ball to figure out when you will get your items. IMO there is no doubt I will chose B&N with their free shipping in the future over DDD, too many bozos working at DDD to figure out which end is up...
