Christmas albums/singles new for 2006?

Every year I compile a Christmas music CD for friends/family and I like to mix in some quality new songs with the old standards, so I'm always on the lookout for new stuff.

I know both Sarah McLachlan and Bootsy Collins put out Christmas albums this year.

What other Christmas albums and singles have been/will be released this year?

Aimee Mann released a Christmas album a few weeks ago.

One More Drifter In The Snow

There are 8 covers and 2 original songs.

By far the best Christmas album to come out this year will be the one by Sufjan Stevens.

I love Aimee's cover of "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch" with Grant Lee Phillps.

D'oh! My brother went to an Aimee Mann show a month or two ago and told me about her Christmas CD.

As for Sufjan, a little research shows that I already have the first three volumes, downloaded them last year. Good to hear that there'll be more new stuff.

I just picked up the Celtic Women Christmas Album, which is pretty interesting for christmas music.

Martin Sexton came out with a CD called "Camp Holiday" of old Christmas favorites in Nov of 2005. Some really good remakes, some so-so ones, and a portion of the proceeds benefit camp Sunshine.

I'm a big fan of the first two volumes, but I looked at 3's tracklist and I'm unimpressed. I think they had all the good "definitive versions" on the first two and there's nothing left.

"Twisted Christmas" by Twisted Sister is new this year. I'm a big fan of 80's style glam rock, but I heard the clips on amazon and they are HORRID.

Good point, GW. There are only so many "classic" songs to go around, and many of them appeared on the first two volumes (although, being the sucker I am, I bought the 3rd one anyway). I do enjoy the first two a little bit better. IIRC, I got it for only $10 or $12 on sale at Target or WalMart a few weeks ago, so the price definitely swayed me, as well. Unfortunately, some of these songs were repeated on the first two albums. IMHO, however, a lesser version of the Now! series still seemed better than many of the other "best of" Christmas CDs that are out there.

Here's a track listing if anyone's curious:

To add to my own thread, the Decemberists released a cover of "Please Daddy (Don't Get Drunk This Christmas)" (along with some live tracks) exclusively on Sony Connect. You can stream it at Pitchfork:

Never bought anything from there, but I like the song.
