Studio 60 gets a full season order

I'm shocked that noone has posted this yet:

Released by NBC

NBC GIVES FULL SEASON ORDER TO CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED NEW DRAMA 'STUDIO 60 ON THE SUNSET STRIP' FOR 2006-07

BURBANK November 9, 2006 NBC has renewed its critically acclaimed, first-year drama "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" (Mondays, 10-11 p.m. ET) for the remainder of the 2006-07 season, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, President, NBC Entertainment.

"I am pleased to show our support for this outstanding and ambitious effort from executive producers Aaron Sorkin and Thomas Schlamme," said Reilly. "From the start, they have delivered the superb show that we wanted. The critical support has been rock-solid and there is a passionate core audience. We can't wait for what's going to come in the remainder of the season."

"Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" is averaging a 4.0 rating, 9 share in adults 18-49 and 9.8 million viewers overall (through November 6) and has increased its rating week-to-week in 18-49 with each of its last two telecasts. "Studio 60" has consistently delivered some of the highest audience concentrations among all primetime network series in such key upscale categories as adults 18-49 living in homes with $75,000-plus and $100,000-plus incomes and in homes where the head of household has four or more years of college.

That is fantastic news. I have to say I am shocked as everything I like (besides the Office) gets canceled eventually ala Arrested Development.

Yea. Bring me the finest muffins and bagels in the land and let's drink from the keg of glory, for NBC is da man!

I hope the ratings keep increasing to the point where NBC will pick it up for a second season.

But whether they can sustain it for more than one season is still unknown, due to the US$3 million per episode production cost of the seris.

I'd suggest the cost of the series isn't as important as the ratings. If they can move the 5.x up to an 8.x, the $3 million won't matter. Similarly, it's doubtful that the 5.x rating and a $2 million an episode cost would be any more palatable when it comes time to make a decision about the show's future.

I'm hoping that a timeslot change (Wednesday nights at 10, maybe?) and the inevitable Emmy nominations will help turn the ratings around.

to the Democrats.

They've been in power less than a week, and already we're well on our way to having a Utopian society!

I just started this show this week (after getting screwed a few times last year, this year I've been letting things sit on the TiVo to see how well they're doing before investing my time). Anyway, I thought Sports Night was good (but not great like most people around here). Never saw West Wing. But I'm enjoying Studio 60 so far. So this is great news. I'm still 3 episodes behind, but I'm very much looking forward to getting caught up.

I think NBC should make an announcement about moving Studio 60 to a different time slot soon, probably by the end of the month. It's a good show that desperately needs a better time slot, and certainly NOT after Heroes, which has a different viewer demographic than Studio 60.
