Tony Hawk is back! From what I can tell from the Project 8 demo, this might be the best, most updayed Tony Hawk since THPS4. Gone are the story modes, driving golf carts, etc. It's back to basics and it's all about skating.
The new feature is pretty killer too: "Nail the Trick" is something that you can activate when you're doing a trick and then you go into manual mode, basically attempting to perform a trick by using both analog sticks on the controller as your feet. This is the biggest thing to hit the game since manuals, and is going to be nice and challenging for any vets of the series.
Tony Hawk was on Kimmel last night and mentioned they did two months of motion capture on all the skaters to make the animations more realistic. He also mentioned the Tony Hawk games have grossed over $1BN.
I'll be picking this title up sometime this holiday season. It looks to be a vast improvement over American Wasteland.

I can't wait to get this. 1up.com gave the 360 version a 9/10. You can read the full review here.

Picked it up last night and love it. The graphics are pretty amazing and there is so much "stuff" in the game it was worth full price (w/free $10 gift card at Circuit City).

why can't they create a TH game where you ride in contests? Why does it hve to be "collect all hte tickets".
I want a skateboard game to come out where i start out as a noob and work my way up into bigger and better contests, get sponsors, etc. Tired of these "goals" and "missions"

IGN and Gamespot were not very glowing in their reviews. It looks like it could be fun, but I will not be in at full price. A friend has the 360 demo and I will try to check it out today.

I bought it yesterday, and put about forty minutes into the multiplayer and Free Skate modes. I was too busy playing GoW and had homework to do, or else I would've played it more. So far though, I really like it. It's a lot of fun and it looks great. Definitely a step in the right direction after the last two piece of shit entries in the series.

its the same darn game, except for one new addition. You could argue about how intuitive this new addition is, but the fact remains that hardly anyone would use this feature on a consistent basis during their huge combo trick runs.

With 360's two extra button - it will be nightmare for my old fashion hands. :(

I've played the hell out of the demo and plan to pick this up at a later date, or maybe just put it on my Christmas list because of all the games that I've picked up lately. What I've seen and played so far has been amazing, though. I love the 'nail the trick' mode which adds sooo much depth to an already deep game. Can't wait to play the full version and explore the huge environments.

Played the 360 demo and really liked it. It is much of the same thing, but Tony Hawk is still fun and the new analog stick stuff was pretty nice. Definitely on my list to pick up at some point. I'll probably just get the regular Xbox version though as I'm still not ready to pull the trigger on a 360.

Wow this game is a blast. It's so addicting! I was looking through all the achievements and was surprised when I saw this one. Looks like it will be tough to get.

They can make the same game for 100 years as far as I care. Just update it graphically each year and leave out the story crap.
BTW, www.frys.com has Project 8 for the 360 for $44 shipped.

I played a lot of the demo and thought it was a lot of fun. It's a great skateboarding game but in the end that's all it is. I don't see how someone could call the game 'deep'. I'd probably pick it up for $20 but there's just so much more you can do in games nowadays that the Tony Hawk series will have to take a backseat.

Ok I really suck at this game.. It's been awhile since I've played the series but I used to be pretty good at them. I don't think I've completed 1 "sick" goal.. I usually can only get the "pro".
And I don't even come close on getting the big point combos. I know there has to be some type of "trick" to be able to pull them off that I'm just not doing.. I REALLY suck at the "nail the trick" thing..
Any tips before I give up on this game?
Thanks!

The trick is to manual or revert out of most tricks, get to a rail, then manual out, do some tricks and keep it all going.

That's what I do but didn't know if there was something else I'm NOT doing.. Like for the one challenge at the capitol where you have to do 3 flips, collect the 6 eagle things, rack up a 10G hospitall bill, get a high score of 100,000 (i think), and then the combo..
I can do all of them but the freakin combo!!!

Is that one of the challenges where you have 10 goals and need to complete at least 5 of them? If so, you could always attempt some of the other goals.
Getting good at long combos just takes practice. Like L&O said, get used to using frequent reverts after ramp tricks and then transferring into a manual. You don't have to use Nail the Trick mode. There's a way to go into a separate slow-mo mode if you fill up your meter. Using the slow-mo makes it a lot easier to create a long combo.

I think that's a spot challenge he's talking about - not the Classic Mode type challenge. Is this the one where you have all the stairs and there are icons in the trees you need to collect and shit? I hated that one. Skip it until you level up your manual and balance skill a bit more - that will make the grinding and combo linking that much smoother and easier to do.

Yup L&O... That's the one I was talking about. I actually completed it rather easily after I learned what I wasn't doing.. I wasn't reverting and then going into a manual... Now that I know that I completed it on the first try.
I still find it almost impossible to get the "sick" goals.. I've gotten two but those were simple.. No WAY would I be able to get the "complete "sick" on every goal" achievement.
