this one is going to be on sale at bestbuy for 79.99 next week.
im looking for a basic camera. the largest print i will be making is a 4x6. all i care about is image quality. Ive been looking at the reviews for the Sony cam, and im worried about the battery life....seems it's pretty shitty.
feel free to recommend me a different camera, im looking for something under $150...so, obviously, my options are somewhat limited.

Dude, I was considering the same 2 cameras. My problem too is battery life, 2 AA's. I want one I can recharge.
Here's one that seems pretty good, and in your price range :
Personally, I just picked up a Canon A540 for $160 after a $15 coupon at buy.com. I now see $10 coupons out there but not the $15. There's also a Canon A530 out there for $150 (just $25 less), but I'd go with the A540.
Anyway, don't get hung up if a camera uses AA batteries. But if you have a camera that does, be sure to get rechargeable Energizer batteries (another $30 for four plus the recharger). I got about 120 pictures, mostly with flash, out of my camera before the delay to recharge the batteries (two AA's) became too long for my taste.

The Canon Powershot series has always been pretty good. I haven't kept up with the lates but for some great reviews and owner feedback check www.dpreview.com

I would also recommend the Canon. I had an SD300 until recently; just bought an SD630 to replace it. Nice and compact, battery lasts forever, and the photos look fantastic!

The Canon Powershot series have some great cameras. Simple and easy to use.
Sony's Cybershot (besides the W50 and W70) are decent cameras.

Be sure to read the Steve's Digicam's page for each model you are interested in, particularly the introduction and conclusion sections.
The A530 and A540 were new last spring. When Canon released the A620 and A630 a month or two ago there was a major price drop on the A530/A540 (which is why I went with the A540).
Just remember that you'll need to pick up rechargable AA batteries for ~ $30 whichever camera you choose, assuming that it takes AA batteries.

I would definately go with the Cannon, I have the Powershot A620 and love it. Cannon or Nikon seem to be the better cameras out there today.

I recently purchased the DSC-S500 and so far I like it. It's a noticable improvement over the DSC-U30 which I was using before. If you are worried about the battery life I would do like Heat suggested and get some Ni-MH batteries. From the manual:

I just ordered the Canon SD600. A bit better than the SD630 from what I've read. Newegg has a good deal with a free 1GB SD card (which you'll need) for $211. The other simialr camera I was looking at is the Panasonic FX01, but I like the Canons.
