I don't mean guilty pleasure B-movies, either. I remember watching Meatballs Part II a lot on cable, as a kid, but didn't really think it was all that. I wouldn't even call it pretty good, just okay I guess. I can't explain why. There's probably others, but that one pops into my mind right now.

I meant not counting movies you like, but in a guilty pleasure sort of way, because you know they're bad. I'm talking about movies you've watched a lot, but aren't even that enjoyable, but for what ever reason, you're drawn to them. Can anyone relate to this type of viewing behavior?

I do have to agree with everyone else, i don't usually watch movies i really don't like.
I think Commando is a very entertaining movie, just not a very good one.
It's suprisingly funnier than "Running Man" which i really would have thought would win simply for its almost excessive use of one-liners.
But this bit of dialog is simply the best:
Amber: I warn you I get sick. Car sick, air sick. And I'm going to throw up all over *you*.
Richards: Go for it. Won't show on this shirt...

Peter Jackson's early movies: Dead Alive, Bad Taste, and Meet The Feebles
I never heard of Peter Jackson until the LOTR movies. After seeing LOTR, I wanted to see some of his earlier movies. It was a huge shock seeing how drastically different they were. As bad as they were, they are still addictingly fun to watch. I wonder how he could have gone from making such cheesy B movies to the epic LOTR.

Well, back when the same movies were shown in the same places over and over again, you were a lot more likely to get "caught" watching an uninspiring movie over and over again. My friend in middle school had one of those cable boxes, and we probably watched Freejack 15 times in a month.

I watched Apocalypse Now and Boogie Nights tons of times when I was in high school. For a few months, I was always playing them while doing homework.
An unpopular one - the Miami Vice movie. The music so well placed. The look and the action is just so visceral. Michael Mann is a craftsman. It really is inspiring stuff for me. I love it.
The winner is Die Hard 3. The movie is just sooo much fun to watch. I'd say that I've really sat down and watched it maybe 50 times. Chalk another 50 times up to 'watching it while doing something else'. I know the movie by heart.

These are all movies that I watch pretty frequently. Usually at least once or twice a month, and every once in a while more than once in the same week.
-Clerks
-Collateral
-Con Air
-Cool Runnings
-Dumb & Dumber
-Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
-Juno
-Little Miss Sunshine
-Office Space
-Monty Python And The Holy Grail
-My Cousin Vinny
-Punch-Drunk Love
-Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby
-Tommy Boy
-The Weather Man
EDIT: There was a time a few years ago I would watch Con Air and Collateral several times in the same night, usually amounting to around five times a week. I still watch them pretty regularly, though not as much.

If this thread is about movies that aren't that great, but I've watched multiple times anyways, I think the only one would be [b]A Night at the Roxbury[b]. It used to play almost every day when I was at a job where I could watch TV. I must have seen it (or at least large chunks of it) 10+ times.

Star Wars the Phantom Menace. I wouldn't say I watch it A LOT. I've probably seen it only like four times (compared to the many, many times I've seen the other Star Wars movies) and each time I think I like it even less and a little part of me dies all the more.

yeah, BHC2 is a lot of fun, I just thought the villains kinda sucked, but everything with Foley, Rosewood, and Taggart is gold. such energy.
Point Break would make my list as well (though it's a pretty solid thriller IMO, Busey at his best). I remember watching it with my dad years ago, and he still talks about how he can't believe someone would willingly jump out of a plane without a parachute.

Clifford (Martin Short)
Commando...hell, any Schwarzenegger movie not directed by James Cameron (save Predator and Total Recall)
Cobra
Problem Child
Rambo: First Blood Part II
Not a movie that's bad at all (to my knowledge, like the OP said), but I have probably watched Night of the Creeps four or five times over the past two years since I first saw it on VHS about 2 years ago. Talk about a movie that gets better on repeat viewings.
droidguy1119
06-29-08, 11:39 AM
In an attempt to pick movies that are what the OP is/was looking for, I'd say I do this with a lot of sequels. Despite a few viewings over the years, Blues Brothers 2000 has yet to magically become a better movie (although at least it has always had one good musical number). Same goes for Men in Black II, although I'd say it's marginally better than BB2000 (but then, The Blues Brothers is way better than Men in Black). No longer a child, the charms of Ghostbusters II also seem less enjoyable to me, although the courtroom scene is good. The last joke is so bad, though... Coversely, I want Shanghai Noon to be as good as its inspired sequel (or, at least, inspired action), but it always seems kinda lacking.
I find myself unmoved by Pacino's Scarface, but I keep watching it because it's a classic and I think, "One of these times, I'm just going to think this is amazing." The Brendan Fraser Mummy has been on a lot and I keep watching it even though I don't think it's all that great anymore.
One summer years ago I watched Rush Hour about 30 times for no real reason.

I usually just always watch new movies. There will be certain times where different friends want to watch movies when the come out on DVD and I'll watch them more than once with different groups. That's about it though. I'm sure when I get older (I'm only 20) I'll rewatch movies much more.

no, it's when you like a movie despite a ton of flaws. it has a certain level of charm that allows you to sit back and watch it for a couple of hours.

Have you never watched a movie that was on TV that was only mediocre because there wasn't anything else on?
As a kid, I watched movies for this reason from time to time, but I can't recall watching anything I thought mediocre more than once of my own volition. As an adult, I've sat through things I knew I wouldn't much like because my wife wanted to see them, but again nothing more than once. Mostly though if my wife wants to watch something I don't, or vice versa, we'll just plan to watch them at a time when the other is doing something else.
