New Xbox 360 ($399.99) package any time soon?

With the system being out for over a year and the competition arriving, has anyone heard about a new 360 package including some extra bits and pieces? I read somewhere a while back that they weren't considering a price drop, but might add something to the package, so I figured I would ask around before finally taking the plunge and picking up a system. I know individual stores have their little deals going on with a free fan or some other misc. item, but I was hoping there might be an official update where an extra controller or a Play & Charge kit or a game might be included. Has anyone heard anything?

Nothing's been announced.

I purchased my 360 at Sam's Club which came with an extra controller & memory card*(?) You end up saving $20 vs. buying them seperate.

*I bought it on launch and don't remember the third item that came with it.

If you go to Overstock.com you can buy it for $35X.xx after the 12% off coupon. Click the following link:

12% Off

You might need to add a non-media to your cart with the item you are trying to buy in order for the discount to go through. Get something like a cheap sign or a pack of cards or something.

EB/GameStop currently has a deal where you can trade in an original XBox and get $80 off of a new 360 (219.99 & 319.99 respectively). Also, if you trade in your old games (not all XBox games are compatible), you get an additional $10 credit for every 3 games.

I'm heading up to the store in a little bit with my old XBox, 2 additional controllers, a memory card, and a bunch of games. I should be walking out the door with a 360 for under $200 out of pocket, not too bad of a deal.

I had read online a few weeks ago that supposedly starting on Sept. 30, they were going to start a bundle that included Ghost Recon:Advanced Warfighter with the premium package for the same $400 price. However, that date has come and gone with no announcement. I went ahead and ordered mine from amazon a couple of weeks ago (free shipping, no sales tax) since it didn't seem like any major price drop was coming. After having just read the less than stunning list of launch titles for PS3, and taking into consideration the higher price and limited availability of that console, it just doesn't seem like Microsoft would have any real business reason to do a price cut right now. At most, I guess they might throw an older game into the package as I mentioned above, but I just don't see the price going down.

You can buy it at Amazon (regular price) and get either Gears of War or Viva Pinata free:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.htm...cId=1000010981

What I did was buy my premium at Target and opened up a credit card account. I got it that day (meaning I didn't have to wait for an e-tailer to ship) and for 10% off.

$400
-$40 (10%)
+ sales tax

I ended up a little better with the EB/GameStop thing than I thought. I ended up getting $251 in credit for the xbox, the accessories, and 21 games (most of which were old XBox games, and shit ilke DMC2 and Okage). I ended up paying about $250 out the door with the 360, a wireless charger, and the extended warranty (since my friend says there's still problems with the systems).

I know that about once a month, Meijer runs deals where if you get one of their credit cards, everything in your first purchase is discounted between 10% and 35%. I've been kicking around picking up a 360 and have been watching their ads for a while. I haven't seen a discount higher than 15% over the last couple months, but when my girlfriend got her credit card there earlier in the year, it was 35% off. Of course, she only used it to buy some groceries.

NOW!! (sorta)

Buy An Xbox 360 This October & Get Gears of War Or Viva Piñata Free

If you've been considering finding out for yourself what the buzz surrounding Microsoft's Xbox 360 is about, now is the time to do it. Order either an Xbox 360 or Xbox 360 Core system during the month of October, and we'll throw in a pre-order of either of Microsoft's highly anticipated titles, Gears of War or Viva Piñata as a free thank you gift. Gears of War and Viva Piñata are $59.99 and $49.99 values and will be released this coming November.

To receive your free gift, simply add your choice of game, along with an Xbox 360 gaming console, to your shopping cart and proceed to checkout. Your Xbox 360 will ship immediately and your game, on its release date (see the game detail pages for these dates). But remember, this offer is only good throughout the month of October, so order yours today.
amazon

Edit: Apparently there is a "glitch" and both games can be added for free. Whether you get both or not is YMMV

I'm picking mine up next Jan./Feb. when the units with the 65nm chips begin shipping. The heat and quality issues on the current system make me weary. I noticed this week Best Buy includes a free "System Cooler" with purchase, that should totally not be the case.

That seems like not a bad idea.

I was looking to get it through Amazon actually (gift certificate balance), so this is really along the lines of what I was hoping for, thanks. Neither is my type of game, but I've heard good things about Gears of War (although Viva Pinata is made by Rare, who I haven't seen too many bad games from)... off topic, but is there any buzz surrounding Viva Pinata?

Thanks!

If I purchase a 360 thats what i'm hoping on waiting for as well; only problem may be figuring out which systems have the updated CPU.

It will be a bit tricky, but they are supposed to be in nearly all systems that are built in 2007 on. After the Christmas season cleans out inventory, we should see them trickle in. Does anyone know are the build dates indicated on the outside of the box at all?

After dying, the (Amazon) deal has been replaced with a "buy the system, get a $50 game free" deal. The games to choose from were Madden NFL 07, Oblivion, and Lego Star Wars II, and when I just checked now, Dead Rising has been added. Despite slight hesitance based on the renewed interest in the thread about the system overheating/freezing, I think I'm going to jump on this one. Here's the link for anyone who might be interested. It might be the same as the one above.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.htm...cId=1000010981

EDIT:
I ended up going for it with the 360, LEGO Star Wars, and NBA 2K7. I convinced myself that paying for 2-day shipping was cheaper than if I had payed tax, plus I saved about 6% thanks to buying Amazon gift cards on eBay... although seeing that I just made a $470+ purchase for a game system and 2 games is a bit overwhelming. Here's hoping I'll be even more overwhelmed (in a good way) once it arrives.

For those of you with Meijer stores nearby. When you buy a 360 you get a $50 Meijer gift card.
