I was thinking this last weekend. I just attributed it to a lack of interest during a lackluster box office season.

no good movies = no interest. Jackass 2 made about 11 million and change this weekend.

Actually, that's just the Friday estimate. It should finish up the weekend with a pretty solid performance. Fearless came in 2nd with $3.5 Million on Friday, which isn't too bad. I don't think anyone was expecting Hero or Crouching Tiger numbers from this movie.

Oops. My mistake. That's what I meant. On par for about a $30 million weekend, which should beat the first one by about $7 million for opening weekend.

Does anybody have any idea what the budget for Jackass 2 was? Boxofficemojo has an "N/A". I'm assuming it's in the ballpark of the original at $5 million.

I hope they tie up all the loose ends in this one...I'm tired of sequals.

According to Johnny Knoxville on the Stern show last week, it was between 5 and 6 million.

I used to put them up a while ago and then someone else did them. During the slower box office months like now people aren't as interested I guess. I usually was able to pull the table code and post it successfully for the Friday estimates from boxofficemojo's site, but the full weekend estimates table would not work with the DVDTalk code parser and would screw up the formatting.

Yeah. There's no fucking way it cost more than $10 million considering the opening and closing segments were shot in 16mm again and most of the film was shot with higher-end miniDV or low-end HD equipment.

A fourth new film, All the King's Men, with a cast headed by Sean Penn, became not only a critical disappointment but an even bigger box-office failure, earning just $3.8 million and winding up in seventh place.

I thought the original plan was to release 'All the King's Men' last December for Oscar consideration - was it not ready? was there any additional footage to be shot? guess it didn't help even after all this wait period.

Actually, I'd figured the cast alone would earn more than that. They'd have to give me a considerable check to make me do what they do to themselves. I'd have assumed that each one could lock down a solid $1,000,000.

Production itself was probably $2m.

With the actors/director sucking up the rest of the $9.5m.

But what do I know. I used to do some weekend threads but have been too busy with Work and WoW lately. Here's the Actuals for the weekend:

to Little Miss Sunshine breaking $50m. The Protector tumbled again, but I can't say that wasn't expected.

Johnny is probably the only one of Jackass that would get more than $1M for the movie. Noone else in it has really had any success outside of Jackass-related things. Bam has his skateboard thing but outside of skaters, I don't think he has done anything (I'd put Viva La Bam into the Jackass related category)

Knoxville has said in interviews that they didn't get any upfront (or very little) but all got part of the back end, which turns out to be a very good deal, as this one will probably surpass the $65 million take of the first movie.
