Okay, I'll bite. What does a TMX Elmo do, and why (other than peer pressure) would kids want one?

No kids want these. The demand is purely ebayers at this point.

It's able to fall down and laugh (kicking its legs) and then stand back up by itself. It basically looks like it is in a giggle fit but more extreme than just shaking.
The local Toy-R-Us had 15-20 of them on the release day when I was there. I certainly never expected it to be such a hot item.

No kidding. The frenzy surrounding these reminds me of the Cabbage Patch frenzy of a couple decades ago.

Actually, my 2 year old daughter wants one. Everytime the commercial comes up I try to change the channel. I'll try to grab her one this year, but won't break my neck doing it.

I saw a news report this week about a guy who was threatened out in the parking lot just after buying one of the last few Elmo's at a Target store. He was a college student in this 20s. Stupid how the report was only about the toy's "popularity" among kids and failed to emphasize how it's purely people out to make a quick buck -- such as that college student.
