I saw it in the Walmart store in Canton, Ohio. Is this a great deal? My friend bought a 42" one for $3000 2 years ago. Is Ilo a really bad brand or something? Theonly difference I saw between more expensive 42" tvs was that they mentioned having HMDI or what ever its called input/outputs. Does not having that make it not worth it for some reason?

Ilo is Walmart's house brand. Like most house brands, it could be any manufacturer or even surplus parts. If it doesn't have HDMI, that's most likely why it's being blown out. Not having HDMI is a huge disadvantage, and considering you can get quality LCD / or ED Plasma panels with HDMI for that price, I'd pass.

Thanks for the info Josh. I was thinking of getting in on one of these. I ended up getting a 60 inch Sony wega LCD. $2000 at Costco including the stand.

I think that Ilo set only does 480p.

I'm thinking that's probably the case based on the only review of an ILO 42" plasma I can find at AVS and the few other comments found based on a google search.

A friend of mine who used to run the electronics dept at a Wal Mart told me never to buy a TV there. He said all the sets there, even the major name brands, used cheaper parts in their sets to lower the cost. He said the sets aren't built to last nearly as long. Not sure how true this still is in the HDTV era, but I'd tend to buy elsewhere. I've noticed a few times that the serial or model # on a Wal Mart TV is usually one digit or letter off from the standard model # you'd see at a Best Buy or Circuit City.

I offer this as anecdotal evidence only, but I bought a clearanced, GE TV from Wal-Mart in 1989. They had used it as the store display and that set is still going strong, and the picture's not bad either, considering its age. I'm just saying...

That was when Sam was still around, though. Arguably Wal-Mart is a much different company now.

Given that there are many, many name brand products available at Wal-Mart, it's hard to put much stock in to statements like this. It *might* be reasonable to say this about the Wal-Mart off brand electronics, but the DVD player I bought there is the exact same thing I would have gotten from any other major retail store. The only difference is it was cheaper at Wal-Mart than any where else! :)

There's a nice Samsung 42" DLP HDTV that I'm recommending on sale in my Circuit City thread for 10/1 - 10/7 in the Bargains Forum . Price is $1259.99 plus you'll get a $100 Gift Card upon purchase.
I don't recommend TVs that often but I am on this one.
