Was looking at the other Credit Card thread and realized I prob couldn't get any of these bc I have no credit file yet (student). So does anyone have a suggestion for the best card you can get with no history?

who wouldn't give you a credit card? companies love students; mastercard and visa both have, on their site, options for student cards..try there first.

my first card was a discover card, which had a nice cash back bonus program.

MBNA gives out to pretty much anyone... they have a 23% interest rate i think, that's why

best bet is to get one of those, make some payments every 2 weeks continusouly for 3 months, and then apply for a better credit card

I was thinking maybe a sonystlye card with their 100$ cash back after first purchase. but I might not qualify so keep sending recos
discover looks promising but not quite as flexible or as univeral as visa (might just be a misconception though)

I have many complaints with capital one. I'd go with Bank of America if you can, they are pretty much the only credit card I can recommend.

you should just get a card, and get your credit established. keep a balance on the card and keep making payments, on time of course, for at least six months. after that, apply elsewhere for a better card.

They *refuse* to stop sending me offers. I've called and asked repeatedly. I will not do business with this company. On top of that, the offers are incredibly crappy, even though my credit is excellent. If I don't get at least three offers from Cap one three times a week, it's a slow week.

Another idea: if you don't need a credit card immediately and shop regularly at stores that offer cards (e.g. Target), get a store card. It a great way to establish credit, and they usually have an incentive going for signing up.
