Question about playing DVDs on a widescreen PC monitor

Is it possible for an anamorphic DVD to be anamorphic on a widescreen PC monitor? I have a new Gateway HD widescreen monitor and of the titles I've sampled, they all play the way a non-anamorphic title would on TV or on a portable.

I read the manual and looked at the settings. I set the monitor to the recommended settings for DVDs however they were still playing as non-anamorphic.

Either way, it's not a huge deal but I was wondering if I'm missing something. I'm not looking to do the "HTPC" deal either. I've a seperate HT set up. Just wanting to make sure anamorphic DVDs play as they should when I spin 'em on my computer.

Of course they can be displayed anamorphically. It's up to the player to handle it. On a 4:3 monitor you generally set the software player to keep the aspect ratio and on a widescreen monitor you would turn that off.
