The Class - *Series Premiere* - 9/18/06

So TiVo recorded a preview of this in the wee hours of Sunday night/Monday morning, and I watched it last night. Pretty decent show -- not spectacular, but I think it makes a nice match with How I Met Your Mother. The cast is mostly unknown to me (it has Jason Ritter from Joan of Arcadia and Andrea Anders from Joey, but beyond that, nobody I've ever seen apart from the occasional guest starring role), but most of them seem pretty solid. I'll keep watching to see if it takes off.

Anyone else see this yet?

I watched it (thank you, TiVo!). Not too bad, but it felt a bit disjointed. I expect that it'll probably find it's legs in an episode or two, so I'll keep watching.

Does this show suffer from "too many characters" syndrome? Does it have a laugh track?

I liked it. Like was said, it's a good fit with How I Met Your Mother.

There are, if I'm remembering right, six characters who were the focus. I suspect the other members of the class may show up as recurring characters.

There was a laugh track, but it was a studio audience, not canned laughter.

I also caught the show! I liked it also! I thought the characters have a great deal of potential...the show can grow into something solid I think. Plus, I agree that it is a really good fit with How I Met Your Mother.

caught it thanks to tivo, not nearly as bad as i thought it would be. laughtracks are annoying, but like someone said, at least it didn't sound like canned laughter.

of course the characters aren't developed or anything, but they weren't super annoying... except the one girl (with the pink hat)... is she supposed to be slow? her voice seriously sounds like forrest gump or something.

I thought she sounded like she was deaf, but aparently, that's just the way she talks.

Yeah, I caught onto this also, but I think that may just be part of her character. I don't think they would put someone in the role if they had somesort of impediment that wasn't meant to be part of the role.

The last scene that she's in is pretyy funny huh?!!

I saw the pilot on the Plane on Sunday. Not bad, and I usually don't go for those types of shows. I'll probably watch when nothing else is on, but not go out of my way. There were a few good jokes though, so I'll give it a couple more episodes first.

I love Lizzie Kaplan also!! I really liked her in the last show she did, Related. I think the character she plays here is really good for her! I can't wait to see the pilot again tonight!!

So this show is actually funny? I saw promos for it during the CBS Television City thing at the MGM Grand and was not impressed at all. But maybe that was just a bad promo? All I remember from it was my comment in my rating "cute girls, but no laughs".

Yeah, it is definitely funny. I saw the pilot and laughed several times. There is definitely some room for improvement, but I think that can be said of any pilot that is screened. Plus, some of the characters that they came up with grow on you immediately...my favorite was the depressed guy.

After rewatching it over again, I found the pilot to be okay, but hopefully it'll be a bit tighter now that the characters have been introduced.

It was cheap, but I did when Depressed Guy backed into Hat Girl with his car.

Overall, it was OK. I'll probably give it another episode or two to see if it improves since it's on right before How I Met Your Mother.

for some reason, i loved the interactions between duncan and his mom. definitely cracked me up.

laugh tracked killed the show for me.. If they had at least done it in "How I Met Your Mother" format, as in here or there it might of been ok.. Oh but nooooooooooo they had to do with old school 1980's HAHAAHAHAHA for every AHAHAHAHAHA other line anyone AHAHAHAAHAHAAH said.. HAHAAHAAHAH

BLAH! That alone is enough for me to pass on almost any show now. It's strange that porn makers have learned and moved on from the cheesy music but sitcoms still break out the laugh track like anyone wants it..

Errrrrrrrrr I mean I never watch porn..

man, I think my funny bone is broke. I just couldn't get into it. I even thought it looked good during the previews. maybe it was just the fact that I'd seen them about 100 times. I'll give it another go though.
