View Full Version : (DEAD) The Office S2 - $17.99 at CC (YMMV)

I just got back from the Circuit City in South Portland, ME and their tag for the Office S2 in the New Releases section of the DVD displays had it for $17.99, which I'm guessing is what S1 is supposed to be selling for this week. But the UPC on the tag is the same as on the box, and it rang up at the counter for $17.99. I'm not sure if this is unique to this store, or a chainwide error, but I figured I'd let you know about it just in case it is the latter.

It was the same for me this morning. I picked up a copy for the same price at the Wilmington, DE (Concord Pike) store.

Damn, so pissed there's not a Circuit City in midtown Manhattan near my office. I'd be all over that.

it was the same in Lake Zurich Illinois
I was suprised and happy at the same time
the tag does state The Office Season 2

that was then turned to sadness as neither Best Buy in the area had received Lego Star Wars II for the PS2

Me neither, so I just now hopped the express train from Grand Central to Union Square. $17.99 on the tag on the shelf, and on my receipt!

Now I have to explain to my wife why I didn't get the one at Target with Jenna Fischer's Video Blog bonus DVD. Hopefully she'll understand and agree that it can't possibly be worth an extra $17... maybe someone will put it on YouTube. :)

I'm actually contemplating hopping on the subway to the CC on the UWS, as that's my neighborhood store. In fact, I think I'll head there now. What the heck.

Good, I'm glad to see that it isn't an isolated incident at my store. I was happy enough to be getting it for under $30, but I was thrilled to see the price on the shelf, especially considering the $39.99 on the sticker on the actual packaging (which I assume it will be selling for next week).

My vote for deal of the week....BIG THANK YOU to Kingtopher. I was going to wait on this down the road...but who could have hoped for $17.99. Thanks again

The CC price thread has S1 for $17.99 and S2 for $29.99 I believe.

Thanks OP! That's a great price for this, so I better head off to CC if it turns out to be a mistake and they correct the price.

The Office : Season 2 >>>> $29.99 ****

****Circuit City Exclusive: 3 Free downloadable cell phone games with the purchase of The Office: Season 2

I can confirm it is $17.99 in San Diego... great deal since the price sticker on it says $38.99.

Ugh. I went to Target because of the bonus disc, since I figured an extra three bucks or so over CC's listed price was acceptable. What's worse is Target and CC are in the same complex here. I actually had to drive past CC to get to the Target. I'm gonna swing by CC later on and see if they've got it for that price. If so, looks like a Target return for me.

Seems to be a nationwide mistake...

Just picked it up in Orlando, FL! (Waterford Lakes)

I think they were starting to catch on, as both the person behind me and in front of me were sporting the DVD and the cashier tried to get me on the price "How much do you expect this to be?"
"$17.99"
"Where did you see that price?"
"Uh, the flyer?"
... luckily he didn't have a flyer at his desk to double check. There were 2 copies left when I left 2 minutes ago (I literally am right across the street).

You da man Kingtopher. Just picked this up in NYC for $17.99. There were no signs or anything with the price on it, so I just took it up to the register and it rang up at $17.99. Sweet.

Also picked up the new SW releases with free lithographs for good measure.

I'm surprised this price mistake hasn't been caught yet, but I am sure it will be by the end of the day.

The second trip was worth it. They had the price tag of $39.99 on them and didn't have the price card that's usually clipped at the front of the rack to denote the sale price, so I took a chance and asked the clerk if it was on sale. She scanned it and sort of surprisingly said it was coming up for $17.99. And the return at Target took all of two minutes with no questions asked. Nice. Thanks OP.

I was vaguely curious about that, but not enough to actually ask. I figure maybe there's an info card inside the package or something, that's how it was when I bought some CD with a free music download code at Best Buy. I haven't opened it to check.

Also, the Target Bonus DVD "Booze Cruise Video Blog" content we missed out on is up on YouTube. Good thing, because now I don't *think* my wife will kill me for buying at CC instead of Target...

Deal verified in San Antonio, Tx as well. Funny thing, I also purchased Season 1. The circular has that listed as $17.99, but, it rang up as $22.99. So, I'm at the register and tell the gal working that the ad says that Season 1 is $17.99. She pulls it out, starts to look at it, I pull one out as well, and then says,"It says that Season 2 is $17.99." I'm thinking, "No it's not, it says it's $29.99." So, of course, I say, "But, it says in print, 'also Season 1, $17.99." She then price adjusts that, and I'm on my merry way..... hahaha
:-)

Not surprisingly, it looks like I'm the only one who truly got screwed out of this. I just got back from the CC in San Jose and they were sold out. I asked the cashier if she'd been selling them at $17.99. She said that she was selling them at $29.99. I certainly wouldn't doubt that she was lying to me and/or didn't know what the hell she was talking about. Congrats to everybody who got the great deal. Two funny things happened at my CC in Las Vegas. First 2 teenagers were ahead of me in line and the older one was berating his brother for buying Smallville. Then he noticed what I had in my hand and said, "see, he has good taste, he's getting The Office!"

Then when my turn came up (and it did ring up at $17.99), the cashier said, "The regular price on this is 29.99, I don't know why we didn't advertise it at the sale price!"

I'd just like to say that this is such an awesome set, the deleted scenes are awesome so far. I've watched the first three episodes so far, once again, and it seems even funnier now on DVD than it did when I first watched them on TV. Sexual Harassment is television perfection. The wait for season 3 hurts.

I ordered a Dwigt bobblehead a week or two ago, but it isn't shipping until the first part of Oct. I hear that they are selling far more of them than they ever expected to.

Yeah, I've been amazed at how good the deleted scenes are. Deleted scenes are normally fun to see as a curiosity, but are usually pretty disposable in terms of entertainment value. But man, some of the deletes from Season Two seemed even better than material that made into the show (and that's saying something, given how brilliant the show is). Case in point - Dwight trying to get Angela to tell him what was written about Michael on the bathroom wall in the deleted scenes from the Dundies episode.

Really, a lot of these deleted scenes convince me that The Office could just as easily work as a full hour show.

Also, props to the OP. I also got in the CC deal after seeing this thread. I was planning to just pick it up at Target because I was going to be shopping there tonight anyway. Thankfully, I checked the Bargain forum first.

Can anyone still verify that SEASON 2 of THE OFFICE is still indeed 17.99 at CC? I looked online and it doesn't come up as this price. Also the season of Firefly doesn't come up as 18.00 bucks either? Is this one of those (you have to go to the store) things to know it's on sale?

As of 10:30am Wednesday morning, the CC in Natick, MA had a stack of S2 DVD's, clearly labelled as $17.99. It rang up as $39.99, but when I showed the guy the price tag from the display rack, he changed it without an issue.

Firefly isn't on sale at Circuit City this week. It's $18.99 at Target which is an in-store only deal. Target.com is linked to Amazon.com's prices.

Although if you want Firefly, buying at Circuit City isn't a bad idea, as long as you bring along a Target ad (from the paper or printed from the web site). Circuit City's 110% Price Match Guarantee meant I got Firefly yesterday for $16.89 plus tax--just about the same amount of money I saved with this Office deal. :)

That's where I'm heading after work tonight! Fingers crossed that price & stock hold out! -pray-

According to the weekly ad, it's supposed to be $29.99 this week. Did they take out the sale price also?

I just went to see if my local CC had the $17.99 price. The shelf tag clearly read "The Office Season 2 $17.99," but it rang up $29.99. The clerk was giving me a hard time, but finally gave in after I went and took the tag off the shelf to show him.

I bet they make price changes at night for all stores via the computers....they might have accidentally put in the wrong price...it will be interesting to see the reports of prices today. Alot of stores may not know about it and leave the sale sign up though.

Just a side note. The video quality on this is incredible. It looks as good as the HD broadcasts. I'm so glad they released this in widescreen.

Interesting--so it appears that this will truly be YMMV going forward, unlike yesterday when it was a sure thing. Good luck to those who haven't bought it yet. You likely have to count on the physical $17.99 sign to get this deal now.

Circuit City in Dedham, MA, still had signage of Office: S2 for $17.99, but it rang up $29.99 -- clerk called a manager and she adjusted the price to $17.99 (don't know what the manager said), but I think it's likely that this deal will soon be dead. I promptly returned the set I bought yesterday at Best Buy (which I had price-matched using the Circuit City circular, ironically enough).

By the way, I would be penniless (or have far fewer DVDs) if it wasn't for all of you who post these hot deals. I cannot begin to thank you enough.

I was going to try and get this at lunch today, guess I won't bother now. My local Circuit City is a pain in the ass to get to and making a normal purchase is usually a hassle, so I don't think I'll try my luck. This is in Montgomery, AL, anyone get it at this store?

I just called my local CC and the guy there said they had a ton of them yesterday, but it was flying out the door and they had sold out. Not surprised for $17.99, although it sounds like they fixed the problem overnight. Congrats to those that got in on the deal. It wasn't something I was really planning to pick up, but for that price how could I refuse?

I just had the same experience as others, where the signage was required to get the $17.99 price. It rang up as $29.99. I told the cashier that it is advertised at $17.99 at the rack where I picked it up. While she began thumbing through the catalog weekly ad, I went over to pick up the ad card which clearly showed Office: Season 2 for $17.99 through 9/16/06. She gave in at that point and gave me the $17.99 price, and then threw the ad card in the trash.

I also picked up Office Season One for $17.99. Great deal on both sets. I did not think there would be any way to get a better deal on both seasons than the combo pack Best Buy had advertised. Thanks, OP.

Thanks, location information is greatly appreciated.

Too many people leave out location information. Without it, most such posts aren't much better than people talking to hear themselves talk.

Ditto today for what most of you are saying. I called and made sure they had it for 17.99, the lady on the phone confirmed.

It had a sign that said 17.99, but rang up 29.99. The girl running the register changed it like she's been doing it all day :)

heh.. figures the one i made a 'special' stop at was a no-go..

i knew it wasn't happening in Orange, CT when i saw a scribbled 'The Office Season 2' sign up (no price).. i had them ring it up anyways, and it was 29.99.

score in North Haven, CT though.. 17.99 sign was up and they had plenty. though they made me bring the sign to CS, so i don't know if they'll be putting it back up or not..

Sounds like they changed something in the system.
I bought mine at that location yesterday afternoon and it rang up $17.99.

Thanks to OP kingtopher and JuanMGonzalez for posting the SKU Tag. Here at the Berwyn, IL (North Riverside area) Circuit City has three left as of 3pm today. Office was ringing up at 29.99. I said the tag shows 17.99 - she went and grabbed the weekly circular and says the season 1 disk is 17.99. I pulled out of my pocket the SKU tag (thanks again JuanMGonzalez!!) since I knew they would not make the effort to walk to the dvd media section. The cashier checked the SKU on the tag and voila! She changed the price.

3 LEFT as of 3:08 pm

Berwyn, IL Circuit City (Cermak Road at Harlem Avenue)

Thanks again!!!!

I went to the Circuit City I bought mine at yesterday, my friend wanted a copy and didn't have his car... when I got there it rang up 29.99 so I pulled out my receipt & the sale tag from the display from yesterday and she said it was a computer error and that it was suppose to be the first season only and that I was very lucky to get it for that price...

So most stores probably will not edit the price even with proof of the sale

Just got it at the Christiana, DE store. Rang up 29.99. I told the guy it says 17.99 on the shelf.
We walked back, I showed him, he took the shelf tag down and rang me up for 17.99. So, I guess it's dead there.

Now, I have to take my one back to Target I already got.

I'm probably on some Circuit City blacklist now for doing that. haha

Thanks OP! It looks like most of the CC's are ringing $29.99, luckily the sign was still up for $17.99 in Roseville, Ca. It's definitely a YMMV situation-I had to tell the cashier after he rang it up about the sign though. Good luck to those who haven't got it yet!

the CC i went to had no signage at all for The Office, either seasons. Both were hidden away at the very bottom of the "new releases" section. Thankfully i got it last night when it was ringing up at $17.99 otherwise i probably wouldnt have ahd a leg to stand on.

Thankfully to the OP, I was able to snag one (via the posted sign) at $19.04. Went during lunch break to the Fort Lauderdale store on US1. Rang up $31.xx, showed sign, cashier (or a trainer, looked like he was training someone) made the price change and showed the trainee how.... hey I helped them out too!

Yep. Same here. I raced home after work, only to find that there was only ONE left! It was on the table display, but I did notice that there was no price card.

All the other dvds on the display table had the price card. I took the last remaining one (there wasn't any that I could spot in any other area) and took it up to the counter and had them price check it.

Sure enough, it rang up at $29.99.

I was hoping to find it cheaper at Costco. I ended up buying it there for .10 cents more, because I went to go and purchase the Arrested Development Season 3 for less than $10.

Oh well.

I still have mine sealed (for returning purposes) if anyone wants to be a stud and get me a copy! :D

I'm so upset. I went to CC yesterday after work. The place was DEAD!!! So I don't know how they got tipped off. But I found the New release rack and there it was S2 of The Office. Didn't have a tag though. It was also on the bottom of the racks. So i grabbed one of the ads off the ladys desk and with rage flipped through it and found the weekly ad for s2 of the office. It said 29.99. SO I knew i was screwed at this point. Then I figured why not ask the lady. I told her I was aware that other stores had it for sale for 17.99 and she was like muahahhhhh it was a merstake... So all pissed off I left. I should have went to CC when i first read this post. Now I can kick myself for missing out.

Guess I'm lucky. I went to CC yesterday. They were out of Office S2, but the tag was out. I asked for a raincheck and the lady told me to just keep the weekly flier. I showed her that the tag showed a lower price than the flier. She signed the tag and gave it to me, so I assume they'll honor that price when it comes back in stock.

The first CC (South County STL) I hit had no copies of Season 2, and the tags were also gone. I assume they just pulled them until they could get it all figured out, or people snatched them up quickly on Tuesday. Second CC (Fenton, MO) had four copies, and still had the $17.99 tag displayed. Picked one up, took it to the cashier and saw that it rang up at $29.99. I was going to wait until she told me the total to bring up the $17.99 tag, but she went ahead and manually changed the price citing a "Tagged Incorrectly" option on her screen before I had to say anything, like she'd been doing it all day. Can't figure out why they hadn't pulled the tags yet, or put up a correction notice, if it was that apparent that it was a mistake...

Checked my local CC and they had the newly printed $29.99 tags out as well. I figured it was still the cheapest B&M price I've seen this week, so I went ahead and picked up a copy.
