Was this a coupon you simply picked up off the counter, or did you get it as the result of making a purchase?

What type of deals/coupons/ promotions do they usually have? I recently moved to an area with a Borders store for the first time, and took a glance in at the DVD sections... everything high priced, nothing on sale, no advertisements.. full msrp or close to it on everything. Why did I remember seeing so many deals or posts about Borders?

Usually new releases are $19.99 or $22.99. Borders is a good place to find Out of print stuff and a variety of films that you wouldn't find on Best Buy, Wal-Mart, etc.

I'm not sure how this would work out to a deal. You'd have to find new releases that are heavily discounted. If not, you'd be paying MSRP. The only time I've been able to get a good deal is when I had the $10. off coupon and I combined it with a personal shopping day.

I jsut bought some stuff today and mine was 25% off a book and/or 25% off a DVD when purchase total is over $10, for the same time period -- 9/14 - 9/17.

I got the same one today. Almost seemed like a good deal, but most stuff there seemed to0 expensive to make it worth it. Also, I don't have a Border's near me (two Waldenbooks though), was just visiting a friend near one and wanted to use the %30 off coupon, so the drive out there for a dvd that I could probably pay the same for elsewhere without a coupon just isn't worth it. Could get another book at WB but I have bought so many recently (including today) that I'm all set for a while.

If you end up comparing prices, those 30% offs will almost always give you the best B&M price possible. At least, if you buy anything other than recent mainstream releases (though even recent re-releases can work).
The B3G4 deal also often severely improves things. I got the Ronin SE (as an example; I got about 19 DVDs at the time) for what would amount to 14.99.
Yeah, you've gotta get 4 DVDs, but if you do it carefully you can be getting 4 DVDs cheaper than usual (or if nothing else, some cheaper than usual and some that are iffy on the cheap, but OOP so it's kind of a moot point--2/19 DVDs were OOP in that group I bought last time).

Criterions are also often a good thing to aim for (again, not big new movies is the key here).

Sometimes the coupons that have been given out on the sales receipt in-store will turn up as an email coupon later in the week - hopefully that will happen with this one.

I'll say, over the Labor Day weekend I found the recalled anniversary edition of The Shawshank Redemption. Used the 30% off coupon too... I felt so guilty

Not to hijack this thread, but has Borders changed their rewards program so that you can earn as many personal shopping days in a month as your wallet dictates? I've used three personal shopping days this month, and my account still lists an unsed personal shopping day that expires next month.

I haven't heard any such thing, so I'd think you got a lucky error for the month...
