I've been looking for a cheaper region free player for my exercise room. I came across one at BarrelofMonkeys, but I can find nothing else about it. Has anyone purchased this?

I'm not totally certain, but shouldn't a "universal" player play DIVX?
Anyway, you might as well pick up the Philips 642 and enter the simple hack. It will play DIVx and is cheap enough to throw in an exercise room without caring too much.

I'd get a Pioneer 588A (which is what I have). With a simple firmware upgrade you can make it region free, it does PAL/NTSC conversion, handles DIVX and has a decent file browser with the upgraded firmware. All this for <$100. I got a refurbed one from Pioneer off eBay for $65 shipped and it's worked beautifully. I've had very few complaints.
