DVD Talk Review of Hustle: Complete Series One
I read Preston Jones's DVD review of Hustle: Complete Season One at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=23298 and...
A couple of things, Hustle debuted in Britain in early 2004 – born of an idea from UK director Bharat Nalluri and producer Jane Featherstone (both of whom worked on the immensely popular series M:I-6 and Spooks),
M:I-6 should be M:I-5 while M:I-5 and Spooks are the same series not two separate series as you seem to imply. In UK it was aired as Spooks, in the US, M:I-5.
Second, (only stars Adrian Lester, Robert Vaughn and Marc Warren may be familiar to Yank audiences – and only then, if said audiences watch a lot of British product), I'll give you Adrian Lester & Marc Warren but Robert "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." Vaughn would be limited to mostly Brit TV fare? I mean the guy's American TV credits go back to the Playhouse 90 days.
I'd also take exception with you that Brit TV is more style than substance as I think on a quality basis Brit TV generally slaughters US TV. The creative model of shorter runs of episodes means that the series tends to not burn out creatively as quickly. I don't think it is coincidence that American shows these days that garner more critical praise like Rescue Me, Deadwood or Weeds would seem to follow the British template of shorter runs.
Otherwise, a pretty accurate review. I just think I liked it a little more than you did.
Best.
