Dragon Force!

Anyone listen to Dragon Force? They have who may be the best guitarist in the world. Herman Li. At least when it comes to speed.

Here's a taste..

Fast forward to the 3:00 mark for the solo.

I just started getting into them. I actually missed their ozzfest performance, but seeing the vid on headbangers ball made me want to get the album, and it is amazing to hear.

I've been listening to them and kind of digging them, but for some reason they just have not GRABBED me enough yet to where I want to actually buy the CD.

That guitar "duel" in the video is pretty cool though. I've seen it before.

If you like these guys, I'd also suggest checking out bands like:

Sonata Arctica (VERY similar sound)
HammerFall
Pagan's Mind
Circus Maximus
Rhapsody [of Fire]
(they recently changed their name)

And there are a LOT of others of the same genre that are just not coming to mind right now.

These guys rawk

I tend to lean more towards the AOR rock stuff, but the quality of this band has captured me as a fan.

I first heard 'em on Sirius and my eyes went as wide as saucers.

This is a great song and I haven't been as impacted by a guitarist since I 1st heard Dream Theater when they hit with their 2nd album.

Not so much, but their fanbase is legendary.

Anyway Paul Gilbert is faster and cleaner than Herman Li. Far superior in every way.
Simply put there are tons of players that are far better guitarists than Li and are much more interesting to listen to imho. Just listen to his embarrasingly bad sweeping and brushing in that first example. Yikes.

My point being, there are hundreds of players that are better than Li.

Dragonforce are entertaining, but not technically amazing. The problem is, compared to most of the crap that kids are listening to today, they are technically amazing.

I enjoy their music, accept it for what it is, and realize that they will soon be forgotten once the latest gang of grunting fat guys excrete something more "brutal".

I saw them live not too long ago. They were off the hook...guitarists were shredding and the keyboardist was playing with his face. It was entertaining, but I still find it hard to see them as a real act...I don't see any grammys in the future.

Wow. I had no idea. I just pulled this from their site:

Due to copyright and trademark issues the band formerly known as Rhapsody has changed its name. The band members consider this a great new start, reflecting the emboldened and increasingly grandiose direction that their music has taken. “The power of the dragonflame will burn brighter than ever before,” says guitarist/songwriter Luca Turilli. Keyboardist/songwriter Alex Staropoli adds, “The name Rhapsody Of Fire better represents the energy that has always been present in this band and its music.”

With a new record company in Magic Circle Music, a new tour planned and a new album on the way, Rhapsody Of Fire will continue to explore musical fantasy worlds with the precision musicianship and unique symphonic concepts that their fans have come to expect and adore. Fresh on the heels of the band’s first live album release, Live In Canada 2005 - The Dark Secret, a new name and renewed vigor ensure that Rhapsody Of Fire still hold the passion and power that have always been associated with their music.
Copyright and trademark issues? Couldn't copyright their name or someone else with the copyright jumped in and forced the change? If it's the latter I find it odd that someone would just now speak up after a half dozen albums.

I heard the Rhapsody music service made them change it.

Ahh. Hasn't the band been around longer? Sounds like they got a bad end of that deal, no matter what positive spin they put on the new name.

There's always a chance the band never bothered to trademark their name. Plus since the band was European (I believe), Rhapsody the service may have beat them to the trademark in certain territories.

Regarding DF, I picked up their latest based on clips and it sounds pretty entertaining. Funny how all of a sudden their whole back catalog is on sale at Tower and Roadrunner is licensing the new one domestically. That's Ozzfest for ya. They'll probably pull an Evanescence and get credited for a sound many bands already did before them.

Given the track record of the Grannys, that's hardly an insult.

I guess that's what they get when their label isn't part of the RIAA

Just a bump to revive this one because I caught one of the Dragonforce videos tonight and was impressed. Don't give a shit about fastest/whatever bullshit (actually the fast guitar distracts on some of the tunes).

I grabbed a couple of their albums and this is good stuff
